There are other things that affect the quality of the image apart from the number of pixels.

The number of pixels is something that makes good headlines and advertising copy because a lot of people think 120 megapixels is four times as good as 30 megapixels. It isn't. It is only about twice as good.

Twice as good is a pretty significant jump though.

Mind you, perhaps other aspects of photography are the limiting factors rather than the sensor.

I hope no one emails me their 'snapshots' from that camera, 10 photos and my monthly mobile wifi account is blown .

(I hate it when I wait 5 minutes for a photo that someone sent me to download then I just delete it !! )

that said I know a lot of people with high end SLR's and they only ever take photos with their iPhone - go figure

That is probably because as some expert is supposed to have said, "The best camera is the one you have with you at the time".

Wow people must be able to see extra good or they're printing their photos to put on the side of buildings.

So true. I have a DSLR with all of the L glass (well, not actually all of it) and the vast majority of my photos are taken with a pocket camera and my iphone.

High pixel counts mean less light per photo sensor ... hence higher pixels mens less light capability. Such a camera would be good for some things, but bad for others. Very much a niche product ...

This may interest some if you haven't already seen it.
