My brother is very interested in getting an Isuzu 4x4 from the auctions but will be going overseas for a while so would prefer to buy one after coming back, assuming they're still being sold. So we're wondering whether anybody knows how many auctions/vehicles/time they have left before the whole stock has been sold. I believe they're selling a total of 2800 defenders, but I have no idea how much of that has already been sold.

They're only about a third of the way through.
Keep your eye on this thread:

Judging from when the Series 2a and 3 Landrovers were auctioned, that will not happen.
Would like to be proved wrong, though.

We all live in hope! By then I might be allowed to buy one too.

Prices have softened since the first auctions, but time will tell if/how much more they will.
I'm hoping to be in the market by the time the auctions finish but there are also plenty being sold in the private market now too from ok to rediculous prices.

Prices are up and down. I bought a trailer for $209 a few auctions back, now they are going for $600+ . 6x6 have come down a little, but 4x4 still around $5k cheapest

And you need to remember that nearing the end they may go stupid as people make a last ditch effort to buy one

That is what happened to the Series 3 Landrovers. They got down to as low as $1500 but by the time the last few were going through I was seeing bids of $10,000.

Iirc this was also said a couple if years ago prefaced with "in a couple of years" ;)
Also add in the mix,a couple of years hoopla about the'end of defender' and a lot of speculators might get involved as well as new buyers who want a chance at a real forby.

The prices in Melbourne are crazy must be due to only a few on auction ,i paid 6700$ i think i did ok as people were not sure due to a little rust in the firewall hard to even spot few rubbers missing ete but under the old girl was nice new complete drive lines gear box tight diffs tight no jumping out of gear etc runs like a charm except for the steering needs a few tie rod ends etc had no canvas just got one from robco products total cost on road inc reg stamp duty etc just over 10,500$.48-672
A lot of work mucking around to get it to this stage .
But i can say i love the old thing just needs power steering .
Some perenties went for 11000 not inc there fee,s gst no winch etc .
Noted near the end the last one went very expensive.
