View Full Version : May have jumped the gun, but what can I say, I'm excited

So, back in May, I confirmed an order for a brand new Land Rover Defender 110.
Corris Grey
Front mud flaps
Black pack
A simple, clean canvas ready for all the bits I've been drooling over since joining these forums, watching other people fit bits and pieces and making modifications, has been driving me crazy. Safe to say I have most of the modifications I will be doing planned out in my head.

Fast forward to September, and I get an email from my dealership telling me that my car is on a boat and ahead of the revised delivery schedule.
I couldn't take it any more, and I have now ordered my first parts, for a car that hasn't even landed in the country, let alone come into my possession.

First two items are basic, namely and ARB bull bar and a Safari Snorkel, and should be here this week, however the car doesn't land until the 22nd, and I've been told delivery won't be until early next month.

Does/did anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Just checked up on the vessel carrying my car, and it's last position ( as of 11/9/15 without paying for expensive sat tracking ) was about 70 kms east of Durban, heading almost due east for Fremantle. Excitement intensifies.

Also was recently my birthday, and my mates have been getting me 4wding goodies. Snatch strap, 12v air compressor, tyre pressure gauge/deflator, vehicle recovery tracks (MaxTrax copies). Can't wait to get out and use it all!

How much sooner has the delivery been bumped up based on your original delivery date? I've been told January for an order I placed in mid July. As I going to be selling my current car before I take ownership I have to time things a bit.

Great news & for info the car carrier Figaro is due to arrive in Fremantle today so that could be the one? Look forward to seeing updates on your 110.

@davisshannon, barring the original delivery date of "late August" quoted when I placed the order in May, the delivery date was 23rd October, which was revised to "around the 9th of October" last week.

@Avion8, Marine Traffic has Figaro in the Inner Harbour of Fremantle as of 1 minute ago. HOWEVER, my Deefer is on the Tugela (both of these ships appear to belong to the Wallenius Wilhelmsen shipping line).

I recall another member talking about a webcam of some description having a view of the cars being unloaded. However I can not see to find one, and the Fremantle Ports website harbour cams are pretty poor.

I look forward to providing you all with photos and updates of my Defender and the things we get up to!

Is there an active Perth based Land Rover or Defender orientated group or club?

Yeah, the "delay" in ordering to delivery has stayed the same,...always seems to be around 5-6 months, as it was when we ordered our 90 in June '13.....delivery November, but the wait was worth it,..BIG TIME.
If you guys have any special pre delivery instructions, make sure you let your Dealer know. In our case we did not want the vehicle buffed, just a light hand polish please, and the paint looked beautiful...still does.

Are special pre delivery instructions something I should be considering?
This will be my first brand new vehicle, and it has been the first time I've had to deal with a car dealer.

Yes indeed, the long wait allows ample time to order accessories, my spare bedroom was chockers by the time it arrived. Not to mention stuff sent directly to the indi for fitting, like maybe $15,000 in the first week

Everyone is different, depends upon how much you are interested in your vehicle.
As a first step, it's probably a good idea to have a chat with your salesperson, make it known that you're REALLY looking forward to your Defender, and you would like the Dealership to look after it, ask them not to let it be used to "show" Defenders to others, ya don't want other people sitting in it, opening & shutting doors etc.
Our Dealership, ULR, were FANTASTIC, they introduced us to their workshop "Defender Man", and We were able to discuss things, fitting of Landrover "Dealer Fitted" accessories with him......they even invited us into the workshop to take pics during the PD....Fantastic. (They also took pics!)
I think that if the Dealer people with whom you're dealing know that you're really interested in your purchase, it makes a difference.

Just factor in a frustrating wait at the port. There was a backlog last Oct when mine arrived and I think I waited about three weeks for delivery from the day it arrived in Freo. Absolutely agonising.

Amusingly the day the ship arrived the kids and I drove down to the port to see if we could find the car. Didn't see it in the yard despite our best efforts.

Anyway, main thing is it is now very close.

The ship for mine was due in on a Friday or Saturday night (can't remember which) so we went down to see but it was delayed by 2 hours so we didn't stay. We went back the next weekend but couldn't see any Land Rovers.

There is W4 and LROCWA - I'm not a member of either.

Ahh Snap, I have just bought the same spec but in a 90! This is me living a childhood dream to own one of these! I called every LR dealer in Vic, SA, TAS, NSW and QLD and there was one dealer in Sydney that had the exact truck i wanted, corris grey, black pack, mud flaps, runners and the leather interior... they had a sun roof on this one which i wasn't fussed on, but for the sake of having it now vs. Feb when the other dealers said they may be able to get me one, I fired the trigger!

Have spent the day looking at what I want done ASAP.... ARB bull bar and driving lights and well... i need to have an anchor point put into one of the rear seats to allow me to put my newborn baby's child seat into the back incase i need to take her anywhere.... Snorkel next followed by a tow bar next pay cycle! :) Flying to Syd to pick it up and drive back to Melbourne on Friday and to say I'm excited is an understatement!

Is this possible? I thought only 110's could have anchor points added, to the 2nd row of seats? I may be wrong, but that's what my reading led me to believe.
This was a big factor in my choosing a 110 over a 90 recently, though I won't actually get the vehicle until March.

There are a few companies that do it and will provide the certificate needed to ensure it's roadworthy. I live in Victoria and I found two places. They can also reinforce the seat too, if you wanted to put an over the seat thingy too. There were a few places in NSW I found too...

I will dig out the name of the company, I'll be calling them on Monday, I picked up my new ride from Sydney on friday! :)

So I've been trying to find a price for a Hayman Reese towbar, because they apparently fit with the Long Range Automotive fuel tank.

ARB want $813.75 for the towbar ( R02490R ) and a universal trailer wiring loom ( 04916 ) which I don't really need because I plan on using a LR N-type electrics loom.
Parkside towbars, who are a notable supplier here in WA, want $784 inclusive, fitted, and will not quote me supply only.
The WA Hayman Reese distributor Auto Extra, want $784 fitted, and $25 less for supply only ( which is stupid, because Parkside said it was a 2 hour fitting job ).

Do these prices seem unfair to anyone else? Any suggestions for a cheaper alternate supplier?

Also, if anyone has installed one of these Hayman Reese towbars themselves, what's this universal ECU kit thing?
