Well, much to my disgust, the Perentie spat at the 101 on the weekend.

The Perentie hadn't been started for a month. Is this sort of thing normal on starting? I've not noticed any black marks before.

Mine does it, its also a weekend warrior. I was under the impression they were sooty engines and this is normal. I may be wrong though.

I will be interested to hear what others have to say.

Actually the other day I was in the workshop, and the beer fridge had a big black spot like that on the inside of the door haha. Maybe its a diesel thing?

A diesel love mark perhaps?

Quite normal if the soot is dry, but may indicate a leaking injector if it is wet.

Good to know, thanks for that. I'll have to stick my finger in it next time.

If wet with fuel - if wet with water probably condensation in the exhaust system, probably common in some climates especially if used for short runs where the exhaust does not get hot enough to dry out.
