Hi,
Has anyone tried one of those straight fit 115mm intercoolers?
Allisport would be great but cost $$$
I noticed there were some china ones on ebay, but they are all gone now,
Did anyone here try one?

All I can find at the moment that will fit in the stock place, cheap, is an MR20 100 mm thick intercooler, they are about 20mm shorter, same width, but much deeper.
Turbo Intercooler BAR Plate 240x195x100mm FOR Toyota MR2 SW20 90 95 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Turbo-INTERCOOLER-BAR-PLATE-240X195X100MM-For-Toyota-MR2-SW20-90-95-/141745248398?hash=item2100acd88e)
The pipes are both straight out but are a bit bigger and in the middle,
so would need some silicon hoses whipped up, but is do able.
Also would need some spacers if still using the pins to locate,
otherwise could use a bracket.

Anyway hopefully the 115mm 300 tdi cheapies pop up again or I may try one of these. (to reduce EGT's + possibly fix a small leak)

Also my intercooler measured 60mm thick, (so not sure if stock)
but had a pinhole leak that I patched up with some radiator epoxy.
I was quoted over $1000 for a thinner than that, PWR one that is supposed to be an upgrade,...
what happened??? their prices used to be awesome.

Also, Is it normal for my boost to loose a few psi when approaching 4000RPM?
Cheers

Years ago a bloke in Melbourne was selling upgraded units under the Jamex brand. Don't know if they are still around and don't have any contact info anymore.

I did back to back testing against the standard one some years ago, towing a 2200 kg caravan in hilly country with near identical weather conditions over two days. Logged boost pressure and lots of temps (ambient air, air into cooler, air out of cooler, EGT etc. and calculated a significant (but not huge) improvement in charge air density at the manifold.

About 8% improvement at sustained full load from memory, but transient performance (short bursts of full throttle) was quite a bit better due the extra mass of aluminium in the Jamex unit.

TRS in Adelaide sell an upgraded I/C with a much larger core using the stock tanks.
I've spoken to the fella's there and they have documented temps and flow numbers for it, and it's definitely an improvement over stock, although IMO the stock tanks are pretty ordinary.

PWR on the Gold Coast also make an upgrade, they used to do a trick one with taller and wider core and fabricated tanks, not sure what the current version is.
I'd also call ARE in Brisbane, I believe they've made a few over the years.

Edit. I see you've spoken to PWR, I rang them a few years back and their prices were up there, but they make their own cores on the GC and it's all fabricated there, not a cheap Chinese version.

Hi,
Thanks for the info I'll check them out.
Aeroflow has 600x300x75mm ones for $200,
and Plazmaman ones that size are about $300.
The Plasmaman ones have a good reputation with the drag guys, and Aeroflow stuff seems pretty good too. They both seem pretty good value.
I guess if I have to I will ditch the Air-Con (is disconnected, no belt, needs idlers etc.) and run one of these.
I cant tell if my intercooler is leaking at the moment but cannot see any oily mark like last time. A straight fit intercooler like those 115mm ones or even the MR2 one would be so much easier though.

+Air-Con would be nice in summer time!!!
Cheers
