Words fail me.... Bendeela and its wombats, ruined by some morons.

Ten wombats, including four feeding mothers, deliberately run over at Kangaroo Valley camping ground, NSW Police say - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-20/eight-wombats-deliberately-run-over-and-killed-at-camping-ground/6789658)

They should be executed, at least castrated so they can't breed.

Stories like that regarding cruelty to animals make me extremely angry!!!
Jail time is required if they catch the mongrels who did it!!

My wife is in tears, I took her there a few months ago to see them, the place is magic. Jail isn't enough, they crossed the line as far as I'm concerned.

Friends were down there that weekend. They were not happy about it also, the wombats are a part of the charm of that camping ground. Hopefully they will be caught by the cameras that track the vehicles coming and going from the campground.

I bet 4x4s will now get banned from that and other areas, and its hard to put an argument against it.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Andrew

That argument is simple Andrew but one that doesn't seem to gain much traction in Oz any more where hysteria, emotion and knee jerk reactions rule the day.

It is important we don't shoulder the blame but rather make sure that the majority aka law abiding. responsible drivers aren't penalized because of the actions of a few.

That is just horrible.

I really hope that catch those responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent possible.

I don't understand humans some times.:(:censored:

I like your sentiments, but when some toe rag does this we all get tarred with the same brush.

I'm not convinced that we're tarred with one brush, but it certainly offers various brigades such as 'ban four-wheel drives' and 'lock up the bush', with ammunition.

No good banning 4wd's to this area as it's easily accessible by 2wd.

First time I went there was in the early 80's and the wombats have always been a highlight.

There seems to be hordes of these mobile dickheads around and their numbers have grown enormously over the last 20 years. I don't know who's responsible for it but the "softly softly don't punish them brigade" must take part of the blame.
The same sort of people have an open door policy for Oz which is also going to lead to yet more disunity and feral behaviour from all sorts.
Good job I'm only gonna be around for another 50 years or so......:o

I don't want to read the article, I get the gist of what has happened, if I read it I will be too angry for too long.

I can't comprehend the cruelty some members of mankind inflict upon animals who mean us no harm and just want to be left alone to live their lives.

I would love 10mins locked up in a soundproof concrete room, with these cretins, with a few implements from my toolbox.

Pain and suffering for pain and suffering....much to the dismay of our world full of 'do-gooders'.

Beyond disgusting. Jail time certainly required. Or maybe we could deport them and replace them with some refugees who would be grateful for the chance to live here (since crime levels among refugees are lower than the average).

Yes, Im no advocater of violence, but it's quite remarkable that if these scum KNOW they're going to cop a beating,"next time", they refrain.
Case in point. Friend of mine's parents lived in a nice area, but their fence & gate was continually being vandalised,....they knew the culprits,...spoke to them, no difference,..stuff kept happening all down the street.
So, their son, who's not living at the address, gets involved. waited for these "people" one evening, there's about 7 or 8 of 'em. He fronts 'em , on his own, invites 'em to "have a go". No-one does. Tells 'em, I know who you are, any more of this stuff, & you'll cop it,....and He walks away. No more vandalism.
Problem is that these days, it's all softly softly, scum are stealing/ruining cars, viciously assaulting people, doing all sorts of stuff, in some cases ruining people's lives, with no real punishment at all.
Pickles.

It seems to me, there are more and more of these types of stories!!! Other recent examples are:

1) A dog survives having two nails fired into its head from a nailgun.
2) A female kangaroo with a joey in its poach has an arrow fired through its chest. The kangaroo had to be put down and the joey adopted out.
3) Man bashes eight puppies to death with a piece of wood, one survives but is traumatised. The man ( he's not a man he's a lowlife) is sentenced to jail, I think it was for six months.

I mean. these cretins are living amongst us and the scary thing is.......they are breeding!!!

Fortunately it isn't genes which determine behaviour but breeding and education. There is a remedy for that, which doesn't involve castration or execution.
Cheers, Billy.

Jail time, a big fine + Driving ban + crush the vehicle. Second offence , double the jail time , fine , ban etc .

Soft sentences, small fines, small bans and leaving them with the vehicle makes no sense to me at all - whether its cruelty to animals or any other offence using vehicles.

This offence is particularly appalling.

cheers,
D

Another story of cruelty to animals. Two 14 year old boys bash two baby lambs and set them on fire as well as killing several chooks. I bet they are let off with councilling. If they are capable of doing this barbarous act at 14 you can imagine what they will be capable of when they reach adulthood.

Statistics show that violent rapists and other sex offenders display just this type of behaviour at an early age.

Aghh, I promised myself I wouldn't get wound up and get involved in this thread.

Ian, I think all normal people get upset at cruelty. It doesn't matter if it is to animals or humans. The people who do these kinds of things are ......just sick.

There may be some good news about this incident.

I camped at Bendeela the weekend before last, just before Australia Day. Since that is during the peak season, the bottom camping area was open, there were a lot of campers, and security was very heavy.

As I drove in, even though it is free camping, details of my driver's licence were recorded by one of the four or five NPWS people. Several times each day and well into the night security people drove slowly around the entire campground.

Someone from my group said on Sunday morning that the reason the very noisy group camped next to us had suddenly quietened down long after the time specified for turning off radios was because the security people had spoken to them.

On a purpose built tower near the top toilet block, there were several security cameras.

I don't know what the level of security will be now that the peak season is over.

Anyway the good news is that they seem to have caught the people responsible for the wombats' deaths. I asked the NPWS guy at the gate if they had been caught and he said that they had and that information about that had not yet been made public.

I hope what he told me was correct.

Catch them, hang the dead wombats around their neck and put them in a cell and leave them there for a week before trying them, confiscating their vehicles and then lock them up in jail for a few years with no parole.
