View Full Version : Titan rear drawers in a D4?

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has fitted the Titan rear drawers in their D4?
Titan Rear Drawer Unit - 1070mm , 4WD & Outdoor Products - Australia (http://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/products/rear-drawers/titan-rear-drawer-unit-1070mm.html)
I've had my eye on Drifta drawers for a while but these are half the price and have a built in fridge slide so I can't argue with that.
My only concern will be access to the spare wheel, wondering if I can fit a socket extension under these drawers still?
Any first hand feedback welcome!

Hi Ben,
I have these draws, I've put them in my car to look at how to fit them which I haven't done yet. You have to lift them 35mm minimum ( I'm using 35x70mm timber ) for the draws to open and clear the trim in the corners at the bottom of the tail gate opening. Unless you remove your rear seats you won't be able to get to the winder, you will also need to buy a fridge slide as it doesn't come out far enough and you can't open your fridge. I'm putting one on the right hand side , the current slide will be handy so you don't have to reach into the back. Apart from that they are really strong , lock and are fairly good quality for something Chinese . Like you mentioned there half the price than anything else, I'm still ahead after also buying a different slide. It will be good to see if anyone else has fit them and has a better idea before I fit mine. :p
Cheers

Hey Lucas,
Thanks for that!
It's a bit disappointing that the slide doesn't do the trick, I did wonder if it would slide out and support the weight well enough. I was thinking a drop slide might be more practical anyway as it brings the fridge down to normal access height. What slide did you get?
I don't have third row seats so i'm OK with space at the back. Can you pull the draws all the way out to get to the wheel release?
Have you thought about just using your rear cargo tie down mounts to fix it in place? I like the idea of being able to take it back out if I need the space to move something big.

No worries mate, I got a Dunn and Watson slidehttp://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111415157809 . I haven't set it up so can't tell you much about it yet .
Yes the draws do come out the whole way which is good because the whole unit is 75kg.
Yeah I was going to use the tie down mounts and just screw the timber to the bottom of the draw frame by to give me the height I need to open them .
Cheers.

For anyone playing at home or reading this later, I ended up getting a set of the Titan draws (no wings). They're actually pretty decent, and the fringe slide works well and supports my 60l waeco.
Pics attached. I fixed them by attaching some loop mounts and grabbed a few hooked turnbuckles (the same used for shade sails) to screw them to the rear mounting points, then I can remove the drawers easily if I need to (pic attached). I used some pine underneath to slightly raise the drawers so they clear the tailgate and don't face down and fly out when you open them.
I also removed the false floor above the spare and can still access the wheel winder (pic attached) so I feel pretty lucky with that too.

Thanks for the photos its great to see what they look like in a D4. I am looking at a set of drawers but probably only for limited use as we usually have the caravan in tow. Just wondering what the access is like to the top of the fridge ? Can you get the fridge lid up on a Waeco? Anyhow given the price I don't think you can go far wrong. Cheers

Given the price you can help local manufacturers go out of business [emoji6]
Got to love the Aussie way...

That's a bit harsh Tombie, there are many items that I have bought from china because they are affordable even though the quality is not top notch. If they had been double the price I never would have bought them in the first place so no locals would be missing out in that respect.
Anyways, I made my own drawers for my D4, so on the drawer front I kept myself busy.

Likewise, I was looking at a rear drawer setup for a one time only trip. Can't see the point spending thousands for 4 weeks use though...

No need for draws for a one off trip either....
Tubs and a simple shelf...

And my post may be harsh. But it's bloody true!!!!
Cheap imports cost jobs, local products don't sell in volume so the cost goes up...
Cheap imports come in... cycle goes on..
Just look at the Kongs/4wd Stupidmarket rubbish and it's proliferation through the country... people buying cheap quality gear and willing to replace it yearly rather than save up and buy quality once...
These are the same people complaining there's no jobs.... but if the awning were made in Australia it would keep several employed... apply that to all the other bits and pieces...
Back on topic:
A decent set of local manufactured draws, used for a while and then sold on will cost about the same once the sale is factored in...

Yeah that's what I decided on. Tubs will do. Already got that big one maybe couple more small ones.
True on the resale, seen some people asking nearly full price.

I had a couple of sets of plastic drawers that I used in my old Pajero. Worked quite well and you could buy various sizes in how many tiers you wanted.

Funny you should mention cheap chinese over the Aussie product, 95% of the accessories on our D4 are local, Supapeg and Bob Burrage awnings, Drifta drawers, Traxide DBS, Lightforce spotties, Rhino Platform, GME UHF and Antenna, long handle shovel and home made mudflaps:p Opposite Lock bullbar(before they started making them in Thialand) Kaymar rear bar and carriers, LLAMS.
The VRS winch is made overseas, for VRS, still a quality item though, the fridge is a Waeco, so most are local product

I figured buy quality, buy once, some of the gear has been in 2 vehicles, and even some in 3:)

But if cost is an issue, I do understand why people go cheap, sometimes it is hard to justify some local products, but what gets up my nose is when they sell the cheap chinese products at an Aussie price:twisted:

HI Ben, Are you still happy with your Titan draws? I am thinking to buy a set and have heard you can just use one half if you want to still leaving access to one of the rear seats and spare tyre. Can you remember which size you bought in the end, was it the 1070mm Patrol GQ version and how about the width? Also what thickness pine underneath did you end up using? Any help would be awesome Cheers Dave

"but what gets up my nose is when they sell the cheap chinese products at an Aussie price".
Your right on there Redback. I was chatting to a bloke who was a director of a company (I won't mention which one) which supplies much stuff for a well known 4 x4 company.
He was complaining about people buying off the internet "doing Aussie boys and girls out of jobs".
In the next breath he's telling me his company is building factories in Thailand to make exactly the same stuff at dirt cheap prices then flogs it at much the same price as anything made here!
Talk about hypocrisy.
