View Full Version : Defender 110 ordered - Feeling excited!

Hey all,
So I've been window shopping and admiring Defenders for years and today I finally bit the bullet and put my name on my very own. To be honest, I'm the kind of person who always talks myself out of things like this, so I didn't think the day would come. I'm feeling pretty good about finally making the decision, as utterly silly as it is.
I went for a test drive a few weekends ago, as I hadn't ever driven one before. I really was expecting the worst, and thought I'd hate it, but I didn't. It felt robust, honest and more than a little bit special. Since then, it was just about finding the right price.
I've ordered a Corris Grey 110 with:
Black pack
Front mud flaps
Contrast leather (ebony/lunar)
Black side runners
It's due to be delivered in March next year, which is a mighty long wait, but at least I can work on my wave in the mean time :)
Cheers
Andrew

I ordered my 90 (same colour & spec) on June 26 deadline - I was advised last week that i won't see my truck before March next year also. Seems that the deadline was no deadline at all.

Sounds great, the Corris Grey with Black Pack is a handsome beast, and the Ebony/Lunar leather looks great. Having contrast leather and black pack is a nice way to distinguish that it's one of the last of them too, since both options have only been available for MY15 Defenders. I'm in (maybe on?) the same boat with a March scheduled delivery, it seems like a LOOONG way off...

Thanks! June was the deadline for new orders, but dealers actually ordered quite a few for themselves to sell to customers at a later date. Orders can then be 'modified' up to a period of time before they're due for production. So my order was actually an old order, that wasn't yet allocated, that I modified to my own spec. If that makes sense?
Sounds great, the Corris Grey with Black Pack is a handsome beast
Thanks, I really can't wait to see it. I've never seen the colour combo in the flesh before, but it looks great in the photos I've seen.

Very nice - I guess you now need to just relax and know that it is coming.
I purchased mine 2 weeks ago and I get to drive it home tomorrow - I think I have whipped myself into a frenzy trying to learn as much as I can about it. I should have just remained calm about it all.
Hope all goes well.

I thought the same. I also thought that I would cop a lot of ribbing and derision. I was wrong. What I did get was a lot of admiration and admission into the wonderful society of Defender owners and the wider Land Rover community.
Like me I'm sure you will kick yourself for waiting so long.
Cheers,Billy.

Nice going Andrew!
I have one complaint... SUDDENLY EVERYONE HAS ONE IN CORRIS GREY! :p
Did you order the Sawtooth alloys with your black pack?
I ordered mine back in May, and it's currently sitting on the north quay in Fremantle after being unloaded last night/this morning!
Mine is also a Corris Grey 110 with the Black Pack ( including Sawtooth alloys ), and front mud flaps, but I didn't take any other options as I'm going to go all aftermarket on mine.

I actually see a lot more Keswick Green, white and silver ones around. I've never seen one with the black pack either. I like the Corris Grey anyway, bugger it if everyone else has one too :p
An orange Defender, to me, is a bit like grandad turning up to family dinner in a Nike hoody and Air Jordans. I'm just not cool enough to pull that off

Thanks! I did end up going with the Sawtooth alloys in the end, with the Continental tyres (I figure they're a bit more forgiving on tarmac than the MT/Rs).
I'm trying not to look at accessories and keep it stock as a rock for as long as I can. I'm terrified of what further damage my wallet might take if I do

The dealer had to make a few minor changes to my contract this afternoon after sending my spec through to LR.
Apparently the Continentals I ordered are no longer being offered with the black pack, so I don't have any choice but to get the MT/Rs. The car I test drove had the MT/Rs fitted and road noise seemed ok, but the Contis appear to be more popular for on-road manners. Not a big issue, really.
The other change was that my car will be an MY16, rather than MY15, which I'm happy about. I guess it really will be one of the last. Bitter sweet :(
I told myself I wouldn't buy any accessories yet, but that only lasted 2 days. I've already jumped in a group buy for some Nolden LED projector headlights. That's it though. Nothing else... :p

Hmmm, interesting about the Contis vs Goodyears, I have "Black Pack with Alloy Wheel - Conti" written on my contract due for December build.
Any idea what the MY16 vs MY15 is about? I though from about this time of year all of them would be MY16 anyway? The LE models are listed as MY16 I noticed.
Cheers, Matt

I had the same written on my contract too, but for whatever reason I've been told the Goodyears are the only option. It really doesn't bother me too much, so I'm not going to kick and scream.
As for the MY16 business, I think the confusion stemmed from the fact that there was never meant to be an MY16 Defender. 2015 was supposed to be the end of production. I think it was just a dealership misunderstanding, I'm sure nothing is different between the two.

It's funny how they are restricting tyres for certain builds. I've ordered a 90 with a Nov build date. Mine is a black pack, but being a 90 they don't allow Goodyears. Does anyone know the actual reason for this? Kind of strange that they have these weird rules about which models/option packs get which tyres.

I heard that the MT/Rs are the better tyre either way, and about 300 or 400 more expensive to replace the set. I was always going to get the big meaty MT/Rs as I plan on spending as much time off-road as I can get!
I've got to go and pick up my ARB bull bar and Safari Snorkel today, Jason at ARB in Canning Vale is a pretty good bloke to go and see in regards to that stuff. That's an exciting shopping list! On the topic of accessories like tow kits and bull bars, I noticed that these things don't seem to be offered from the factory on the 2015 Defender in Australia? I wonder why that is?

There are two versions to the brochure you display, I think they have different print dates, one is Aug '14 & the other is Dec '14.
However, whilst tow bars are not shown on your list, they are shown in the Defender Catalogue which is predominantly U.K. orientated, but they are different to the ones available in Aus, with different regs,...same for bullbars, which in Australia are both locally made, so not shown in the U.K. printed brochures.

Thanks, I noticed there was a difference between the international brochure and the Australian spec sheet. I have seen items such as the Defender "A Bar" etc on Australian cars though, so either it used to be an option from the factory (and isn't anymore) or people have imported the part themselves

You can still get the "A Bar", but it would not be a substitute for an Aussie bull bar.
Whilst the items that you specify are not properly listed in the Catalogue, your LandRover Dealer would definitely be able to help you there, but there may be other brands out there that may be more attractive to you.
Don't know much about bull bars & tow bars myself, but others on here definitely would (probably know more than some LR Dealers!), and so they would certainly be able to point you in the right direction.

Car manufacture years (well Land Rover anyway) are a bit like financial years as in they don't necessarily start on the 1st of January and end on the 31st of December, as an example my 300tdi was manufactured in October 94 but it's classed as an MY95 build, my Td5 is the same as well.
So yeah not sure exactly when it changes but all Defenders built from now on will be MY16 builds.

Yes, I know what you mean. A "Lightbar" would be useful for some people. There is such a thing available from Supercheap etc which is simply an aluminium tube which sort of clips in behind the number plate against the front bar.
A bit "insignificant" for a Defy though.

I think that as soon as your vehicle is allocated a VIN number, you'll be able to track it. You may have to wait until it's consigned to a ship though. I have paperwork showing me when it was taken to the dock, loaded, sail date etc, then I tracked it from the UK to Melb, and took prints of that tracking!!

Must admit I'm a little jealous of you all waiting on your final my16 defenders to sail in... I too picked mine up straight from the dealer, MrLandy spoke to me from under a beautiful gum tree...not exactly as I would have specced if I'd built my own (eg I wouldn't have ticked the sun hatch box), but the price was great so I went for it....and I love it. No regrets, but of course I'm enjoying sharing in your excitement tracking your new Defenders' arrival and look forward to seeing pics! Especially heritage green limited and montelcino red defenders! That's interesting about the later ones this year being a MY16 plate.
Mines due for production in Dec and the dealer told me it would still be plated as a MY15 build. Either way spose it makes little difference if you are keeping it as most of the crowd buying these last ones will no doubt.
Im getting a Fuji White 90 with Leather, sun roof, side steps, sound system and sawtooths.
Managed to get a better price through dealer on ARB deluxe bar, Runva 11xp winch and a set of Wrangler MT/R Kevlar 265 75's. Those suckers will set the sawtooth's off nicely. Got my full body Patriot chequer plate set and some APT under body armour quoted and ready to go for Feb!

I was talking to Ben at APT a cpl weeks ago asking if his Steering protector would fit my 90 with ARB deluxe/chassis repair on my 110 and he said that the ''irons were in the fire'' for the roll cage design and transfer/gearbox plate set.
He's quite a helpful bloke and makes great kit.
Yeah I think the 90 will come up good. Will get the grill and light mounts sprayed up gloss black so suits bullbar and get the bonnet protector less the piece for the hump. Think I might do a graphic on it and the side in the black and white theme. Will come up like a limited edition hopefully without looking wanky - Delicate balance
I have the 110 ''Camel'' Ute who is keeping it real so tricking up the 90 for a daily would be cool I think

I was considering Opticoat, as it seems to be one of only a few products that's worth the money. My brother had it applied to his VW and after several years of parking on the street in Sydney, it still looks brand new.

Paint protection is normally just a great money earner for the dealer. Normal washing/polishing is fine for new paintwork.

I had a product called Permagard put on. They currently hold the contract for most commercial airlines in Australia like Qantas and Virgin. The stuff is for real and is CSIRO certified and since all the airlines have picked it up so have Porsche, BMW and a few other exotics are in discussion. It is the same product used on the planes as it is the marine and road cars. There's nothing like it on the market.

Yep, Heard all about all of those products.
Wifey bought a new Audi S3 recently, so I considered all of those products,...in detail.
I am not "Anal" about my cars, but I do like to look after them, & I do.
Our Defender is kept in a garage when not being used, Wifey's S3 being used daily, is kept under the carport.
We respect our cars, we keep them clean, we wash then regularly, we clean any bird poo etc off them as soon as we see it, and we polish 'em .......once a year, on their birthday,.....and our cars look,...brand new.
I don''t think ya need it, Pickles.

For paint protection i would recommend using an Invisible Car Bra. It is a polyurethane film that permanently attached to the exposed paint surface of your car.. But do your research as lot will depend on who applies product on your vehicle..

I'm the same, I wash my cars regularly and do everything I can to look after the paint. I've got plenty of time to think about it, anyway.

Markups on accessories in Australia are getting out of hand. Luckily Land Rovers don't actually need many! The wildly varying prices for a snorkel is a case in point. I've had quotes ranging between $360 and $580 for the same snorkel! It's definitely a case of buyer beware.
And the more inflation we accept, well the more inflation we'll get. Something is way out of kilter. I suggest it's aspirational inflation, given that manufacturing costs are so low off shore. I'd understand a higher price for a high quality accessory hand made here, but when it's a piece of plastic blowmold made by the millions or some leather conditioner, seriously?

We got it on the Mazda but not interested for the Defender. Both vehicles get washed regularly and polished and are kept under a carport. The Mazda came with bottles of shampoo and polish stuff which they say have to be used on it, as they say normal car wash can include salts which may damage the protection. I'm using them on both vehicles. The Mazda dealer refilled the bottles at the first service, which impressed me.
I agree about Lanolin and have used spray bottles of it and fish oil on the underneath of the Defender.

I had paint protection on my Territory. I won it playing a silly game that should have been on TV. Anyway, It turned out that caring for the paint protection was more work than looking after the paint it's self. I reckon all this 'protection' stuff is just cream on the Dealer's Tart. You should determine what you need as you use the vehicle.

All we have to do to care for the paint protection on our Mazda is to use a special wash which Mazda supplied with the car. They even topped the bottle up at the 10,000 service.

I guess it only takes one person to want one enough for the price to be fair. It's a funny thing with Defenders. There are relatively few people buying them, but those who do are generally pretty passionate about them. Emotional purchases like that can attract higher prices, particularly when supply becomes scarce.
I still think he's dreaming too though.

RRP is around $60k OTR with those options, so I don't think he'd have any trouble at all selling it for that. The question is how much more than that people are willing to pay, given there are few, if any, left.

It has electric front windows, thank you very much. With respect to your other points:
- Only the person you hit is going to need airbags,
- Manual is more fun and better off road,
- I love the driving position,
- Build quality remains to be seen.
It is a fairly basic vehicle, but it's fit for purpose.

Auto eill trump a manual 90% of the time and make daily driving a pleasure not a chore.
The value question will always depend on the individual. I think $60k on a Defender is far better value than $60k on a Hilux SR5 because I'd rather drive something special than something with a lot of driver assists.
The same applies for auto transmissions, it's a preference thing rather than one being superior to the other. I love driving and I love being involved in the process so a manual will always appeal to me in any situation. I drive a manual to and from work every day and have no complaints.
Automatic transmissions have also become incredibly complicated and when they break, they cost a mint to fix. The S-tronic gearbox in my father's Audi cost $52,000 in parts and labor to fix when the mechatronic unit failed last year. Fortunately the extended warranty insurer covered those costs, but what about after that?
Not for me, thanks.

I have said this a few times - maybe we are both nuts - but I love driving the 110 Defender - just taking it down the shops is a good excuse for a drive.
The gear changes are fine now. It started out tough and took some time to get used to it - but now I find it quite easy to drive. I am only at 3000km and it already feels better than the day I brought it home.

Andrew86 can you just confirm that figure for the Audi box ?

Yep. Over $50k was the total repair cost sent to the insurer and the car was off the road for 2 months. The mechatronic unit was diagnosed as the issue initially, but other components were later found seized in the box that required a full rebuild to be undertaken.
That rebuild required a special custom designed crate to be shipped over from the Eastern States for the box to go in to be safely sent to Melbourne for the work to be done. During the rebuild, it was then discovered that the replacement mechatronic that was installed previously was actually faulty too.
Then when everything was sent back and put back in the car (some time later) and ANOTHER mechatronic unit installed, the issue wasn't fixed.
In the end, a totally new gearbox was the answer (a $20k part), and it's a 10 hour job every time they had to remove the gearbox or reinstall it.
Oh and then the new gearbox, when that finally arrived, was slightly different to the old one and needed an array of other parts to fit properly.
To be fair, if the gearbox was replaced to begin with the bill would have been half what it was (only $30k or so). But these things are so complicated that the process of diagnosing problems can take literally months.
It's a BRILLIANT car, and it now runs beautifully, but for how long? Give me a stick and a third pedal any day of the week. It's more fun anyway.

It was worth around $60k at the time. The supercharged 3 litre V6 is an absolute monster, I love driving that car.
The S3s are lovely too, though I've never been a big fan of the flatulent sounds those force fed 2 litre engines make.
Anyway, I'm hoping any gearbox issues I have with the Defender cost less than the deposit for a new house ;)

If (on the day I drove it home) I had an offer for more than what I paid for it we would have had quite a debate about selling the 110.

Yes, my wife was sceptical at first, because she liked our old auto D1, but now she likes the Defender because its roomy and she feels more protected than in a small car. She also finds the firm front seats less tiring on a long trip than soft car seats. What a woman!
In fact, when we were preparing to drive to Sydney last week, I was arguing to take the Mazda and travel light, but she wanted to take the Defender because she could get lots of stuff in the back, including her Thermomix. In the end, we took the Mazda and I got the Thermomix in the boot.

"The Wait"?
Well, We specified a lot of options on Gracie when we ordered her a couple of years ago, and we were all fired up & very happy, but had our enthusiasm slightly dampened when we were told that delivery would be in about,.....six months!!!
So I reckon 6 months has always been about the go, if it's an order to your spec, that has to be built "for you", at Solihull.
So, whilst the wait is long (We could've done without it!), it makes the eventual delivery, even more "exciting",.....we were always "counting down the days"!!...and Gracie has been worth every one of them & more.

Yes, was a bit worried about that so I checked it out this afternoon ;). Yes it is the one until they move back to Nepean at the end of next year.
However they say they don't need to see the car for 12 months or 20k after driving it out of the showroom??
I thought most marques got them back in at 1500ks to drop the oil and make sure all the nuts and bolts are tight? Thought that would have been especially relevant for a car that predominately hand built.
Guess they know what they're doing

I used to concern myself with that sort of stuff,....not any more!
We've had a few new cars, most with more "sophisticated" higher outputs than the Defender, and NONE of them have required that "initial" 1500K oil drop,....so now I just go along with the service book!
Gracie's now done 35,000ks, I checked the oil the other day, it's a bit dark as you would expect, but it's nice & smooth etc, next change due at 44,000ks or 12 months from the last, whichever is the sooner.

Also, Barbagallo's has 3 used Defenders in its lot at the moment - all of which are listed at well above RRP. If they're actually selling at the prices that are being asked, then I've made about $10k in the time I've waited so far. Not bad!
There are a bunch on carsales atm, all over $70k! Are these really selling for this? Blimey, I bought my new 110 just a year ago for just under $50k :o:D

I suspect that what people are asking and what they are getting are two completely different things.
The guy advertising the Heritage for $85k last updated the advert on 9th December with:
Seller's Comment
*UPDATE: Thanks for the enquiry, interest and cheeky offers - we will sell the Defender Heritage 90 this week for $85,000....or next week we will start driving.
A month later and it looks like he's neither sold, reduced price or started driving it... :(

...more smoke and mirrors. A beautifully restored series 1 for $85K hmm maybe. There may be a little bump in Defender prices over the next year due to mild shortage, but anyone thinking their vehicle is going to appreciate in value is dreaming really. Maybe if he keeps it immaculate and doesn't drive it for 30 years...it might be worth $85K+ in 2046. But by then a new car will be $250K.

You've said yourself though that the Defender has always been pretty good value at $50-60k, compared to other 4x4s on the market.
Now that they're no longer available to buy new, there isn't the RRP price ceiling that there was before and the market gets to determine their true value. I don't think 70, 80 or even 90k is that ridiculous for a car like the Defender that we'll never see anything like again.
There are definitely some dreamers out there though, I don't disagree.

Cheers Andrew, yes agreed, but I don't think there would be many who would actually pay such a premium. They'd buy a Discovery for $80K. The limited edition Defenders aren't that different from standard. It's really just colour and logos. I noticed there appears to still be a Heritage 90 new on car sales? The demand just isn't high enough.
Although the articles in The Age today are interesting and may create a little more demand. Intriguing that the Toyota Fortuner article beside the Heritage 90 article lists just as many 'issues', including rubbish like poor cornering ability for both! These motoring journos clearly drive too many Supercars and German sedans, believing that all vehicles should be benchmarked against them. Bizzare. Apart from their shape both the Fortuner and the Defender do basically the same thing, cost about the same amount and have similar issues according to the journo, though I think he also misses many important aspects of both vehicles.
It will be very interesting to see the market prices of both in ten years time.

Put in your VIN in the Cargo ID field to search. You can then click on the voyage number which will show you where the boat stops and the approximate schedule.
And here is a Prixcar tracking page that was found on Google to help track the car once the boat lands. Enter your VIN and you can see as the car gets delivered from the boat to Prixcar and then the shipping status between Prixcar and the dealer.
[E2 - Global Vehicle Tracker] (http://e2.prixcar.com.au/e2/DirectAccess.jsp'task=VehicleTrackerHome.jsp)
There isn't anything more informative as to where the car is at with Prixcar, but at least this shows you where it's at.

Thanks davisshannon, using you link, the Asia King voyage has the following ports:
Bremerhaven 16/12/2015
Zeebrugge 17/12/2015
Southhampton 18/12/2015
Port Elizabeth 04/1/2016
Durban 05/1/2016
Fremantle ETA 16/1/2016
Melbourne ETA 21/1/2016
Port Kembla ETA 23/1/2016
Brisbane ETA 25/1/2016
I was away last week on a fishing trip when I had a missed call from Southerns saying that my Defender was arriving earlier than expected. Fingers crossed it has made this ship. My notional build date was the 18/12/2015 so it might have just sneaked on to this one.

If you've found the voyage based on your VIN then it should be on that ship. Mine was accurate and then it took from the 24th of December until the 8th of January to arrive at the dealer (Christmas and New Years I'm sure caused delays). Once your ship arrives you can track on the Prixcar tracking site.

Yep, mine is a month earlier than I was initially quoted too. I'm not sure if this was to account for worst case scenarios, but it seems like an enormous variance for a date that should be fairly well known. Oh well, at least it isn't a month late!

I think Southern's put it in an earlier build slot to ensure they have the vehicle before your nominated delivery slot. People are a lot less likely to complain about getting it early than late. Both of ours were early. We made them hold one as we were going on holiday and I figured I'd rather have the money in the bank than the car in the driveway as I wasn't going to be home to drive it anyway.

Thanks Ulysses, I really noticed that change in tempo when I test drove the car last year. Not because the car felt slow necessary, but because I felt no need to drive quickly or hurriedly. It's a great feeling behind the wheel of a Defender, I'm looking forward to a lot more of it soon :)

Yeah I got my VIN before production even commenced, all order slots should have a VIN allocated. I could then double check the specs on Topix to make sure they'd got it right.

My Landy has landed!
We went down to Fremantle this afternoon to see if the ship was in and sure enough the Asian King had unloaded and was preparing to leave. They're certainly efficient, having only arrived that morning.
We didn't expect to be able to see much, but went for a drive alongside the docks anyway. There were lots of BMWs, Porsches and various other makes, then we got to the Land Rovers and eventually started seeing Defenders. Sure enough, at the very end of the line of cars unloaded, was my little Corris 110 (w/black pack, contrast leather, side steps, front mud flaps all there as ordered). It absolutely made my day :D
There didn't seem to be many 110s on the docks. Just my car, a white one, a Keswick (I think?) and what seemed like an awful lot of handsome looking 90s.
Anyway, I jammed my camera through the gaps in the fence and snapped a few cheeky shots to keep me going while I wait for a call from the dealer to say she's ready. It'll be a long couple of weeks, but I couldn't be more excited! Naturally, I had to spend the afternoon at a bar to calm down ;)

I suggest that you ask your Dealer if he can take pics of your vehicle going through the PD procedure at the Dealership, alternatively ask if you can come in & take pics.
I also suggest that you request that they not use a heavy buff on your paint,...ask for a light hand polish,...as the paint is new, this should suffice.

Absolutely we were interested in it, right from the time of order, to 6 months later when it arrived at the Dealers, went through the P.D. with them,...they actually invited us in to see how we wanted things done.
So yes, we were "involved" from day 1, We'd never had a LandRover before, so the last two years or so have been a big learning experience for us, not so much off roading, too old for that, but in my case, just learning all about the LandRover brand, its history etc,...and there is HEAPS to learn. It's an intriguing story, and one that I'm sure you'll become engrossed in as you learn all about yours.
Wifey & I have been lucky enough to have a few good cars,..Gracie ain't the "BEST" (C63 takes that prize, by a LLOONNGG way!) one, but she is most definitely the one that we most look forward to drive, & the one in which we have had the most fun,......and all this is in front of you!!

Well, how you look at them is up to you. I wouldn't say that "normal" people think of these things, but then again, I'm not "normal"!!. If you look at any old/classic cars, particularly American Muscle / Mustangs etc etc, many of them have "production documentation" etc, which is the stuff I'm referring to.
The "Broadcast sheet" is attached to your car during build, and details all the stuff/ options on your car,...I've got mine, and I treasure it.....The guy who did our PD saved it for me, because He thought "I'd like that sort of stuff"!!...and He was right. Similarly with the window stickers,..no they are not "official" stuff, but they are part of the factory build process pertaining to my car,...so of value to me!!

I think that if you are lucky enough to own a classic car (and the Defender certainly is that), then ALL documentation that YOU can collect relative to YOUR vehicle, makes YOUR car that much more special,.....that's the way I feel anyway.
I ain't contemplating selling Gracie anytime soon, but with my previous classics, the documentation I've had has certainly assisted in the sale of the vehicle.
But really, if any of this "documentation" is available/attached to the vehicle,.......surely YOU might as well grab it,.......alternatively it'll just go in the bin!!

Great pictures mate, I could only take photos of the ship from fare away when it was unloading my defender.
Enjoy the car when you get it.
I believe the Asian King docked this late arvo in Melbourne - I rang to see if I could get anywhere to see it - answer -no way - oh well - it's here after 7 months - not long now:D

I suggest that you ask your Dealer if he can take pics of your vehicle going through the PD procedure at the Dealership, alternatively ask if you can come in & take pics.
I also suggest that you request that they not use a heavy buff on your paint,...ask for a light hand polish,...as the paint is new. Pickles.
I took your advice and passed on these requests to the dealer this week.
My contact's reply:
'Regarding your notes from Pre delivery I must admit I have never heard of these requests but happy to assist where I can.'
Hahaha!

Can anyone fill me in on what goes on from the car leaving the ship to it arriving at the dealership? I've been told my car won't be ready to collect until the week of the 8th of February, which is over three weeks since it hit the docks.
Apparently my dealer doesn't even have the car yet. What's the deal?

Take a look at my post (#143) on page 15. Prixcar handles the stuff between the boat and the dealer. Mine took just over 2 weeks after landing to reach the dealer. And then they need a few days to prep the car.

Thanks for that, your earlier post has been very useful in keeping an eye on the car's whereabouts. I guess I was just interested in what was involved in the whole process. i.e. customs clearance and other checks.

Strange, my dealer indicated that they expected my Defender to arrive at the dealership two days after docking. Still a month off for me.

I definitely regret going down to the docks to see it. That just made the wait ten times worse!
Tracking has updated to show the car arrived at the dealership this afternoon. I can't see how they'd need to keep it for another week and a half to prep it...surely?
This run to the finish is going to be the end of me haha

Yes a long time indeed - I leave next week for a short Fijian holiday & was informed my 90 will be ready the day we get back on the 9th Feb - not so bad a way to fill in the wait :)

Totally agree - the wait must be tough - especially as it gets closer.
I only had a couple of weeks to have mine prepared and that was long enough!!
Mine was sitting at the dealers waiting for a buyer - once I did the test drive I was hooked. I waited a week and a half due to mostly my availability to pick it up - and that wait was too long for me!

Thanks everyone. After a slightly embarrassing false start at the dealership (low range selector slipped into neutral), it's been a fantastic day. I couldn't be happier with the car, it's such a blast to drive and has been getting comments from all sorts of different people. Albany is certainly a nice place to be spending the first few days with this car.
A few more obligatory Day 1 glamour shots, before it gets dirty.

It's the National Anzac Centre in Albany, well worth a visit!
A couple of quick questions, now that I've had some time with the car. Is the radio antenna meant to extend on its own or is it a manual extension? I've got a feeling it's the latter, but thought I'd better check before I force it up. There's nothing in the manual about it.
Secondly. My subwoofer on the back of the centre storage compartment seems to cut out after a few minutes each time I start drive the car. Initially, it works fine and has plenty of punch. Then nothing.
Any idea what the problem might be? I've got a feeling I've got my first warranty issue already :(
Still loving the experience though. Thanks for all the positive comments.

The antenna is manual, and the subwoofer sounds faulty.

Well, I took it in to have the subwoofer checked out yesterday and it looks like it's a faulty unit. It's moments like these I'm grateful for warranties...it's a $1400 part that'll need to come from the UK :o
Other than that minor issue though, the first week and 700km with my new 110 has been great. I can't help but smile every time I look at it and jump in for a drive. Even the guys who thought I was mad for buying one think it's pretty fantastic.
Currently planning our first camping trip for March :D:D:D

What was wrong with the sub-woofer, would it not work at all?

It worked occasionally, but most of the time didn't produce any sound. Often it would be fine when I turned the car on, but then after a few minutes of driving it would cut out and then wouldn't come back.
The guys at the dealership checked all the connections and signal sources and all seemed fine, so I guess by process of elimination they've decided the sub is stuffed. Hopefully it gets fixed, it's a bit of a pain having a problem so early on but I guess I'm fortunate that it isn't anything major/mechanical.

There was a "problem" with Gracie's S.W., when I first tested it,...it made a terrible "vibrating/distorted" sound. I was told about a "packing" piece of plastic inside the underneath of the S.W. that should be removed before use. Put my fingers in there, sure enough there was this plastic "sheet" in there, so pulled it out, and all was fine.
Not sure whether that has anything to do with your issue?

Tomorrow she goes in to have the subwoofer replaced, and as luck would have it, I now have tail light out for them to fix while they're at it.

Yep, I put mine in for a 30,000 km service recently. I've never had any problems so far (touch wood). When I got it back, I was informed the rear wiper doesn't work.
This was a surprise to me, as it had been working fine about two days previously when it was pouring rain. A bigger surprise was that they didn't fix it! When I asked, I was told, "Just bring it in sometime when you want it fixed, as it's covered under your warranty."
I can't really complain. I've been very happy with their service to date.
At least it's not a major issue, but it did earn a raised eyebrow from me at the time.

I had a similar raised eyebrow experience yesterday when they charged me $3 for a replacement tail light bulb. I understand that bulbs are consumables and aren't covered under warranty, but the car is 4 weeks old and it shouldn't have happened yet. I'm not bothered about the cost, but equally it wouldn't have cost them anything to waive that line item and have a customer that feels a little more looked after.
On the plus side, I now have a working subwoofer and a very nice spare wheel cover. Hopefully that's the last trip to service for a while :)

They probably didn't have the part in stock. They see you so often, waiting in a chair, that they form a perception that you have nothing better to do, I reckon.

So in recent news, I've moved to Vancouver for a couple of years and my Landy is safely tucked away under an old bed sheet in a top secret location.
My Dad is on hand to do what needs to be done while I'm away - giving it a run from time to time, keeping the wheels turning to stop flat spots etc.
Does anyone have any other tips for storing these things?
I miss it so damn much. I think I'm going mad. Surprisingly, I see quite a few over here - like this glorious red beast.
Cheers

I've sort of got mine in storage, all I have done is put it on axle stands and covered it in soft blankets so not to scratch the paint. I start her every month and take her round the block every three months, all your looking to do is run her up to operating temperature.
She's due for her 1st service in two months! :)
