View Full Version : Newbie Air Suspension Query

Just bought my first Discovery 3 beast and love it, has 22" wheels (see picture).
As I'm paranoid of any massive mechanic bills, I'd like to ask about the air suspension.
Every time i start the car and turn it off, it does some re-adjustment thing. Now I notice there is a lock icon on the console. Is there a way to stop the suspension from adjusting every time i drive it? If so, is it good or bad to lock it?
Note I drive normal melbourne roads with the 22" rims.

It's balancing after you get out. Perfectly normal operation...
Every time you open and close a door it will do the same.
Nothing to worry about.

Hi.
I have a D4 and so it may be different, but when I use access mode and hold the button down for a couple of seconds it locks into access mode (for car parks where you want to keep it that way). That's when I get a lock symbol on mine. Normally it would clear as you drive away as the car will raise to normal height if you exceed 50 kmh.

thanks guys, exactly as both of you mentioned, when i open door and i have tried locking before only for it to alert me that it was raising when i hit the freeway (at which i **** myself :) ).
this car has 85,000klms.
how am i meant to maintain the air suspension? are there any regular activities to keep the system healthy?
thanks in advance guys, really appreciate it.

Basically looks after itself, wash under the car on a regular basis, and every now and then(especially if you go through mud) take off the compressor protection plate and give it all a clean around the compressor area(don'y use a lot of pressure) and plate, other than that, nothing really.

Nice car mate, very clean and tidy, looks like it's been looked after.

Have a read of the FAQs. There's a good summary of the air suspension in there:

I like these old threads too. Goes in to some detail on suspension modes:
