Evening all my radio reception has slowly become quite poor, drop in and out and can be very staticy, radio Guys in Cairns just look at and say "buy a new one".
This did have excellent reception, probably the best we have ever had, it is the plain low spec radio.
Did see a while ago that it could be the earth ? Where do I find that connection ?

Writing this as last night put the car in the shed and almost lost all reception, a lot of static, turned the motor off and in boomed the radio beautiful reception. Static did not seem to vary with revs it was just there as long as the motor was running.

Any help ?

Sounds like a suppressor capacitor in the alternator? Try an auto sparky. The capacitor absorbs the voltage spikes that cause RFI radio frequency interference or some such voodoo.

Been in the garden with a trailer on today, no static evident with first or multiple starts but left it idling for 5 mins. or so and in came the noise.
Appears to be when the alternator starts to drop its voltage so maybe the charging circuit - somewhere !

Could also be a thermostatic fan bearing or similar. Any electric motor that drags on a crook bearing or some other impediment to free spinning produces RFI.
