View Full Version : Noisey Fuel Pump

Somewhere on this forum it was suggested that changing the fuel filter helps quieten the fuel pump. I just did mine, and pleased to say it works. I am just short of 40K and the fuel that was drained from the filter was very clean.
Restarting was fun. It went really rattly and died. Three starts later and clouds of white smoke it ran ok! (Diesel version of a lean burn?). Drove around the block and all is good.
I could not find any mention of a bleed routine in the book? I let the pump run for a while before attempting to start it, and it sounded like it was cavitating itself to death.
Did I miss anything in the simple routine?
Cheers,
Trev.

PS: Now running with Redline 85 plus. Pump appears to be almost silent.

I seem to recall the filter is changed at the 40K service. If so and you are having it done by the stealer, it would be worth telling them not to bother. You'll need to hock your girlfriend/wife/mother to pay for it in any event ...... 8O

After changing the fuel filter on a TD5 you have turn the key to the "Ignition" position at least 6 times and you will hear the pump run very noisily. Do this until the pump quietens then start.

Disconut ring MR automotive at Redcliffe in Brisbane they will post you what ever you need Oz Post. In Bridbane they deliver same day for $5 even heavy stuff like clutch and flywheel. They only sell good parts mostly LR, OEM or better. They sent a steering box to Darwin for a mate of mine. It was waiting at his brother inlaw's place 3days later when he drove in from the Gibb river rd.

You blokes are lucky, the two nearest dealers are 120km away.

Thanks to Landrover dropping their country dealer network, they won't be Landy dealers in twelve monmths time, so the nearest one will be 200+km away.

Farn d!@#h&@d$.
Its already cost them sales up this way. People aren't upgrading their DII's to DIII's when the lease expires, they're going Japanese.

Sorry, far end of the Upper Hunter Valley, half way 'tween Tamworth (where one dealer is) and Singleton (where the other one is)

Nice part of the country.
I believe you have green stuff down there?
The white stuff is further down again.
I have been to Maitland a few times by road and went through Singleton.

Cheers,

yep, had some good rain recently.
Haven't had any snow this year (yet) although Armidale and Barrington have, but they are a bit higher.
Was very pretty last year with the range around our little valley here all white and fluffy and bloody cold.
