It might be wrong to post this on a Land Rover forum, however I found it interesting and might be of interest to those that want a coil sprung ute after the defender run comes to an end.
Jeep plotting HiLux rival? (http://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/news/2015/jeep/wrangler/jeep-plotting-hilux-rival-54595)

Jeep has been doing these concepts for a few years now.
AEV in the US have been doing a conversion kit for a few years now. From my understanding is they bought the panel tooling from Jeep after Jeep did a concept ute a few years prior.
Jeep does make a J8 for the military - but is leaf sprung at the rear.
During the 70's and 80's Jeep had the Jeep J10 ute.
The new Jeep Ute is getting fairly close to production - and will be based off of the Wrangler / unlimited platforms.

Forgot about the J10. Still see some of them rolling around in the South...

Yeh, I had one when I was a young bloke (first and only new car I have had),
Horrible, slow, thirsty, small, only kept it 12 months.

No - what was the verdict?
The Brute is a conversion by AEV - based on the unlimited.

Let's see, a coil ute, airbags , abs, with a 2.8 tdi that makes more power than most rivals, going for global sales volume. It's what lr could have done from the 90's with first the isuzu then the td5 outside of eu.
It's what jeep should have done 30-40 years ago, a stronger diesel for rest of world, with reliable Dana axles front and rear. They would have outsold the hilux/ series cruiser and had a large export market instead of the niche they are currently in.

Hopefully they aim for more than just being better than a Hilux.... :). I've heard new model already being discounted to move them.
