Hi all,

Not sure if many of you have updated the firmware on the Alpine CDE-133BT headunit. I was having trouble with no sound and the handsfree function not working. So after downloading the manual for the unit, I notice that you can update the firmware. I googled around and found firmware update v01.27.00. My unit had v01.11.00. You'd think that recently produce cars with this headhunt would have the latest firmware but no. v01.27.00 is dated Feb 2013 and I received my brand new D90 in May 2015.

You can find the firmware here at this link - v01.27.00 (http://alpine-usa.com/feeds/promo/13hubtupdate)

The file will contain the firmware plus instructions for using a Mac or Windows PC for updating. I did also see that you can use an Android device. Couldn't find anything about using an iOS device for updating. Please note that the instructions are a little dated but as long as you follow them, you should't have any issues with later operating systems. I've done the update with my Macbook Air.

Once completed, everything was working flawlessly! Then came the surprise! Previously, one thing that I found annoying was you had to press play on your BT-synced device (iPhone 6 for me) to get the music playing. However, to my surprise when I went for a drive after the update, the music started without me touching my iPhone. Awesome!!! I've also noticed once the key is switched to Acc or car fully started, the syncing between the headhunt and iPhone is quicker.

I hope this helps and if you're having trouble with the update, post on here and I'll see if I can help out.

Thanks for this Beery, I did miss this warning. However, so far, so good with my headunit since the update.

I've just checked Alpine Australia's website and they have a firmware update for CDE-133EBT. I've just emailed them to see if this is compatible with the CDE-133BT model that our Defenders have or if they'll be able to supply the required update.

I've also emailed Alpine UK, as their website states to email them for the latest firmware.

I'll update this thread once I have some responses.

Just an update.

Alpine Aust got back to me and stated that since it's a factory fitted headunit, I would need to take it into dealership.

Not surprised!

Used the firmware update link to upgrade the CDE136BT in my XT ute. Thank you for the info, I had given up on Alpine ever releasing an upgrade.

Some better things with my android phone, would be for the directions from google maps to come through the bluetooth connection.
Funny thing is, they do if you are talking on the phone... Or if there is no blue tooth connection, it comes through the phone's speaker.....

The update doesn't mention that..... :(

Cheers,

Phill.

An update on my suspicions on the CDE133BT units fitted to the Defenders. For whatever reason my unit is at 1.14.00 rather than 1.11.00 which my CDE136BT was also at. I am speculating that if your unit is at 1.14 already you may not be able to update it further.
Olsey describes the experience that I had with the other head unit to a tee but the firmware update process fails for the unit at 1.14.00 in my new defender.
This makes all the dire warnings make some sense as Alpine may have locked the units in the Defenders at 1.14 for some commercial reason. That unit does not ever seem to have been sold in the UK as a retail unit either so that further muddies the water....
I can see a head unit swap coming up when I fit the Sub woofer.....
