Hi all,
I have 2 optima D31a batteries and was wondering if they can be shoehorned into the battery box on a 2000 defender?
Cheers

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is the D31A the correct battery for fitting to a 2015 Defender 110?

The D31A Optima is 325 x 166 x 238mm (h) - including terminals
The D34 Optima is 255 x 174 x 200mm (h) - including terminals
The D31A will easily fit into the primary battery location...
Some consideration may need to be made for the secondary location along side - As I had worked on a Group 31 battery with removable terminals - (forgot the Optima is fixed terminal)..
A simple measurement from bottom of front of box to lip will let you know if the shoe horn will work..

Not a great fit as I can't put the lid back on the box.
The door side battery fits fine, however the more inboard of the two has its battery post/terminal sitting quite proud at the rear.

Had a customer with same situation with rear battery terminal height.
He carefully 'dinted' the cover ... made a bulge in the cover to clear the terminal, it was the negative terminal, so clearance was not really important, really just getting the lid in place and compartment clean was the main aim. The end result was a cover with a bulge that fitted neatly.

Or just take the cover off as long as you have the battery's fixed down shouldn't really matter. The seat covers it anyway as does the vinyl flap which I assume it has.
