I regularly borrow a mate's box trailer - it is pretty basic with standard bulbs, no LEDs. When I first borrowed it, I would get all the trailer options - flashing light on the dash when I indicated, reverse parking sensors didn't go on when it was connected, etc....

After I installed a Kaymar bar, the D4 (2011 2.7) wouldn't recognise the trailer and I wouldn't get the above features.

I put my pulse-buster thingy on today in between the trailer and car and what do you know- even though the trailer doesn't have LEDs, my car recognises that it is hooked up again....

Obviously the Kaymar bar lights have affected the function somehow

Good to know. I'm currently fitting a Kaymar to my D3 and I hadn't thought that the extra LED lights would have any effect. What "pulse-buster thingy" are you using?

It's an LED Tow Connect

Faulty earth in the new or disturbed trailer plug and the pulse buster is somehow sorting it????
Those normal globes should work the sensing electronics, were the trailer lights actually working????

Everything is working fine on the trailer and the car. The only thing I can surmise is that the LEDs in the Kaymar bar threw it off.

I think it's something you did when you installed the bar, I have a Kaymar bar with LEDs and a trailer with halogen globes, everything works as normal.

Did you connect the bar LED's to the tail light wiring on the car as described in the installation instructions or the wiring leading to the trailer sockets? I would imagine that doing the latter might cause the issue. I will check my trailer this afternoon (incandescent globes) to see if mine does the same thing now that I have the bar and electrics all connected.

EDIT: Just hooked up my trailer and the car recognises it fine - green flashing trailer symbol with indicators and reversing sensor disabled.
