Trailer Spare

I have a great old No 5 Trailer, always assumed that a series 3 rim was ok for a spare (stop laughing guys) I was wrong, different size studs and nuts. Does anyone know where I might start looking for a rim, really want a spare so I go some sort of distance from home.

The original rims were the 5 1/2" SIIa type (without the raised ring over the PCD) but the Army fitted the 6" Perentie rims AFAIK without changing either the stud or the nut.

You will however find that the original stud doesn't protrude through the end of the nut, however this was a SIIa Land Rover thing with double tapered over-length nuts.

I would be fitting the same rims that you have on the tow vehicle.

Currently driving ex army Defender Command wagon and I cant see the rims fitting trailer, stud pattern the same but stud significantly smaller on trailer and trailer nuts wont safely fit Defender rim, I had thought it might be SII. This is a pretty old No 5 but its still in good nick and a pleasure to tow but need to nut out this spare dilemma. Many thanks for the good advice Lots-of Landies and it just may be I'm missing something here. (not very bright but can lift heavy things) Any advice gratefully excepted.

Check the rims that r on it. There should b a part number on it. Just get hold of a rim with the same number, all should b good. I have several different rims here but im too far away from u. Hope this helps.

Just checked the Defender rims and yes you guessed it same numbers on them AAAARRRGGGHHHH. Think its time for a Bex and a lie down, I think Lotz-A-Landies was on the right track with SII rims, step 1 source SII rim, starting to wonder just how old this trailer is.

Think its time for a Bex and a lie down, I think Lotz-A-Landies was on the right track with SII rims, step 1 source SII rim, starting to wonder just how old this trailer is.The earliest trailers were built in 1963. Most had a rebuild in the 1980s and AFM stamped a 1985 VIN on numerous trailers as they came through the Minto auctions as the original numbers could not be found. (The Army only needed the ARN)
