View Full Version : 1983 110 Split Doors Worth Saving?

This poor old 110 was a personal import by somebody years ago, from the UK via South Africa. Unfortunately, it's really rusted out and we're moving, so it's got to go, probably to the tip.

I can get the doors off, but are they worth saving? I know they're rare, but they're pretty rusty, and the car is way up in Fitzroy Crossing - a long way to freight four heavy doors.

Afaik these are the same as perentie doors, so they are becoming less rare with every auction.

The rear doors, tub and roof may be of interest to a Perentie owner wanting to convert their soft top to a four door hard top.

But as you say.... distance may be the problem.

Thanks, guys, I hadn't thought of the Perentie connection. I assume you mean just the front doors? Anyway, it's hot as hell up here right now and any outside work is barely worth it, so the whole thing might just go to the tip and be crushed with an excavator bucket. A real shame, but then I'd have a warehouse full of old cars I felt sorry for, if I could manage it.

Sad.
I would love to have it.
Do you deliver? It's cooler down here.

It should be restored. It's probably one of the oldest 110s around. The chassis number ends in something like 385, (or thereabouts). Oh well.

What is the deal with the locks on the back doors? Has someone fitted front locks on the rear?

Davo .
Does it still drive.
What engine.
I come up and get it.

Can you post up a photo of the compliance plate if it has one? Something that has a build date and model.
I was involved in a discussion at Glenreagh about 110s with series door handles.

Good question, don't know, could be factory given what they used to get up to. I'll have to remember to have a look. The silver ones were added later, probably in South Africa.

It did sort of drive, but not now, as it's been sitting for a long time. It's got the standard 3.5 V8, LT95 from back then. It's very rusty and needs an entire rebuild, which was my plan until a sort of children and work collision happened. If you did come up to get it, it would have to be soon. You might need some wheels, too, as a neighbour wanted the 15" tyres on it.

Sure thing, I'll just have to remember. We're over in Derby now and I'm heading back to Fitzroy today. I've done a heap of trips back-and-forth over the last few months. I was going to strip what I could off it and chuck the rest but it's been too blazing hot for that kind of work and we're desperate to get this move over with. We're still contemplating getting it here to wreck - my wife is the very soul of indulgence, I must say.

If you can't save the doors, at least save the door tops. If you can't save all the door tops, at least save the rear ones. Rarer than you could even believe. I would love to have them.

There ya go, I thought all rear doors (upper and lower halves) were 1 piece in the wagons.

These early 110s were a bit special like that.

All the one we have seen are, just the false galvanising across them. We have 2 here to compare to:)

Davo we have HEAPS of requests for wagon doors. IF you can save them please do;)

Nope, not yet, anyway. I'm waiting to hear back from someone and have some other ideas, but . . .

The front door bottoms are common and can be bought new for little money. The rear doors and both tops are NLA and should be saved. The rear doors especially are rare and sought after by people that want to do soft tops. Even corroded, you can get good money for them in the States. I'm surprised 4 door soft top conversions are not more popular in Australia.

Convertibles in general aren't popular here because you burn to a crisp in 20 minutes without a roof to protect you from the sun. You could wear long sleeves etc. but then you'd be hot when you stop.

LOL. You might be surprised to know that it is hot and sunny in other parts of the world. :p

Normally what is done with soft tops, is that you leave the top on, roll up the sides and take off the door tops if you don't like the sun.

I've done that in Canada when it reaches a heady 25c, but it just doesn't work in Oz during usual summer temperatures of 35c and up.
