I have a disco 3 2005 with 145 Km and am thinking of the next preventative maintenance. I'm happy to spend money on maintenance instead of new car depreciation!

Have had the transmission serviced, and am about to get the belt and pulley replaced, plus carry a spare brake switch.

Should I re-build the compressor to make it last longer and reduce the risk of remote failure? What else should I consider? Thanks

Based on my experience so far if you are still on your first compressor I would suggest you have had a very good run with it. You can do the service kit but if you are doing remote touring I would suggest you might want to think about replacing it. Another option might be installing one of Gordons manual emergency airbag inflation systems.

Depends how far you want to go but the other killer which I have experienced is the runaway failure of the alternator which also kills the battery and in my case also damaged my Llams unit. Some here have put a fuse in to prevent that but there are varied opinions about whether that is a good idea or not.

If it's a Diesel you will also be needing to get the timing belt replaced if it hasn't been done already. Wasn't sure if you were referring to timing belt or serpentine belt. Will aslo need the pump housing replaced with that.

Intercooler hoses can also crack with age, can replace with silicone ones.

I'd consider replacing the thermostat housing as it gets quite brittle with age, cracks and causes loss of coolant.

It's actually called a "water outlet", rather than thermostat housing.

Here is a link which explains the issue:

(No affiliation with that mob - it just has a nice photo of the part and suggested replacement intervals). ;)
