Hi all, my disco had done nearly 190000km now so i feel its time to do a precautionary change of the timing belt. I am going to tackle this by myself. What do i need and are there any tricks involved? In the Four Wheel Drives parts catalogue they have minor repair kits for about $500 includes every thing, belt, gaskets pulleys, gears etc, is this really needed or will i just get away with the gaskets and the belt? www.karcraft.com.au - its in Silverwater, but I get them all delivered for next to nothing.
I would not do it myself - paranoid about diesel engines, but I ahve my parents to blame for that!!! and helps if you have the right tools.

As with most mechanical procedures so long as everything is marked before it comes apart should be fairly easy. Liquid paper pen or nail polish is helpful for making alignment marks. Then line everything back up as it's reassembled. If you've done it right, should fire up as usual. If not the marks become helpful finding what the problem is. style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif

Might even be a write up in an early newsletter, about edition 3?
Snot hard if I could manage it, but some good tools are important, e.g. muscles, for reapplying torque to the crankshaft bolt.
Have fun.
