Howdy folks, td5 manual disco 2. Randomly started chugging under load (accel/up hill) dont have nanocom with us. Checked oil and was extremely low. Oil levels fine 2 days ago. Put oil in chugging seemed to stop. Thrn aftrr car was off for an hour it started chugging again. Seems to have eased again now vehicle has warmed up. It has full oil levels this time.
Thankyou in advance. On way home from swan reach taking it easy hoping no break down. Wondering if perhaps a fuel pump issue? Or engine misfire?

Possible oil in injector loom problem whereby oil migrates to the ecu end (just in front of the battery) where the oil shirt-circuits some of the wires for sensors. Temporary fix is to remove connector seal to allow the eoil to drain away and wash the connector in metho.

could be several things.
it could be fuel pump
or it could be semi blocked fuel filter

without any tools its a bit hard to diagnose.

I don't think its running on all cylinders

I don't think its running on all cylinders
That would almost indercate oil in the loom symptom.
Where exactly are you there might be someone in the area with a Nanacom;)

yeah made it home, and i have a nanocom. some of the functions are locked, so it did not pick up any faults, and then when it was not runnign right, and had zero power, i plugged it in again and said injector 1 open circuit fault 31,1. had a look at the injector loom plug on both ends and the one on the motor side had a bent prong. so then straightened that up and now is running ok again. partner has gone to work today in it and not sure if its still chugging under load. but he is picking up a new injector loom today as there is now a prong missing too. but i think the issue is something to do with the injector loom.

sounds like an easy diagnosis.

This happened to me.
It could be your turbo air intake hose lining collapsed on itself.... Also your injector loom or injectors themselves.... In my case it was all of the above although I did not have oil in my loom or computers.

and the fix?

Epic_Dragon

just straightened out the bend metal prong thing in the injector loom plug. also bought a new one which is not on vehicle as of yet

well it started doing it again :/ changed the injector loom and no improvement. does not seem to register faults on the nanocom. not sure if something with turbo, or if fuel related and is blocked filter or pump issue? seems to be a mechanical problem that has no sensor to read a fault. it will cruise around ok until needs to rev at 2500rpm or above. it will start chugging like mad, like hte car is cutting its fuel off to be in a limp type mode thing. horrible up any hill. it was completely fine until it just started randomly half way to swan reach and seems to be getting worse. it got better for a small time when the pin on the injector loom plug was put back in right spot only to start again worse than before even after fitting new injector loom. car is not far past 180k. any advice is greatly appreciated

could be the maf is buggered
its misreading the volume of air. hence why it throws no code,
and the sensor is maxed out around 2500rpm

swap with another maf to confirm

Hi,
When I first read this I wondered if the low oil had anything to do with the chugging but o don't think it is related.

There was a member on here with a chafed wiring loom in the harness where it joins the main loom near the alternator area.
I am also aware of others displaying similar symptoms after chafing or damage to the loom near the CPS following gearbox removal.
It took a while to find with lots of wriggling and pulling on looms and Nanocom didn't always register faults.

There's a thread here somewhere on the problem

Is fixed now :) was the turbo actuator valve.i think thats what it is called. You follow the vacuum hose and it goes to it. We did replace the fuel filter too but the old actuator valve has loose bits in it. So anyone who might experience the same thing, check that first as was easy and none expensive fix :) it pulls up hills a heap better now too so suspect its been a problem for some time.
