Hi all,

I've realised both brake lights aren't working.
I've gone through and checked the fuse (same as reverse light 15A?) and bulbs and all are intact. I'm still getting power and parking lights are still working. I bought some new bulb sockets and one of them didn't give me either parking or brake lights while the other gave me brake lights while the headlights were on. They were very poor quality and i assumed faulty.

Is there anything else i should check before brake sensor? i'm guessing it will be that... however it seems like a big job pulling apart the dash and would rather rule everything else out.

Thanks

Check the brake light switch, which is located at the back of the pedal box in the engine bay. They can fall apart with age. I am not sure what you mean by having to pull the dash apart, nothing in there related to the brake lights.

I bought a replacement assembly that had dodgy electrical tabs in the fitting. some adjustment of the angle and separation seemed to fix it.

Auto electrician said to go in through the dash, was obviously just guessing where the switch was. Thanks

I'll try that. I've ordered some elsewhere as the plastic was also eaten away/cracked.

It is impossible to access the brake switch via the dash
Switch is fitted into the rear of the pedal box
It can be a fiddle to get to but is not too bad.
They do age and fail And is an easy check

A worse scenario is that the brake light wire within the main loom has failed. It is more usual for it to short to earth and fail (blowinf fuse )but they can open short...

If this is the case running a new circuit will be your best bet...

Solved fellas. Ended up being both sockets had failed at the same time. Cheers
