Does anyone know of a better option for these / source of supply?
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2015/11/883.jpg
EVERY time I remove my flares, I lose a pin as it shoots into the wheel arch lining and off into the muddy abyss under there... sooner or later I'll not have enough to reattach the flare.
Any tips out there?
Talking about a 2012 defender with the plastic front wheel arches if it matters.

Following with interest as I need to replace some of mine as well.

If you want to make them replaceable is it practical to use nutserts and screws?

The problem with this is the clips are used to "join" or "mate" two thin plastic surfaces together. Nutserts aren't really made for that and you'd end up with the nutsert spinning in the thin plastic. Also under the guards is where all the water and mud ends up so the threads would soon be seizing up.
Following with interest as I need to replace some of mine as well.
I'm following this closely too as I just had my first experience with the clips under the guards when trying to remove my Safari snorkel and internal ducting from there to the airfilter box. I strongly suspect I may need some of those replacement clips soon enough! :(

Might be an opportunity for a group buy ex Ali Baba or eastbay...
I don't suspect they are an expensive or an incredibly exotic part, but as it stands, I'm running on about 8 on the RHS flare, out of about 12.
I'll get some measurements of the standard items when I can and might dig further into it.

Riv nuts may work, but as someone said, it's a rather tough environment under there. You'd need a M6 at least (just guestimating the size, as you'd need to work off the nutsert tube OD), and stainless would be the go, but you can get capillary action of water up the threads, and S/S galls like anything. May be an option for a semi-permanent installation!

The clips aren't expensive are they? Try EBay from the UK. I just buy bulk packs of these sort of clips every so often. Reuse what you can and use new for the rest.

Google "Scrivets" - Super Cheap sell them if you need them quickly...

If your only loosing the pin, measure it's diameter then go & buy a plastic knitting needle the same dia. & cut ya own. If you cut it longer & don't poke it in all the way you can then grip it & pull it out & reuse it. Not a pretty option in some cases though.

Here is the type with a screw in centre.

I've come across these holding plastic trim & shields underbonnet that need to be occasionally removed.

As Judo said, do a bulk purchase - or buy them next time you place a UK order for some other part. They are small and light so the freight is minimal. And while you're at it buy a few BTR6682 and EYQ100130 in case you remove the interior panels at the rear in the future. Sometimes (not always) the freight from Rimmer Brothers - Triumph Car Parts, MG Rover Car Parts, and Land Rover Car Parts and Spares (http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/) can be quite competitive. Other times not.

As others have said, buy them in bulk. I keep 6mm, 8mm and 10mm on the shelf at work in various types. Usually $10 - $15 for 100 of them.

B1/100 - 6mm x 16mm Pack 100 - Scrivet :: Plastic push in Scrivet Clips :: Plastic Clips :: Parts 4 Cars (http://www.parts4cars.com.au/B1-100-Plastic-clip-Pack-100-Scrivet.html)
Looks like good value to me. Although shipping is an extra $15. $37 inc shipping still looks cheaper than other sites I can find.
Anyone found a better deal?

Forget scrivets. They go in easily but they never seem to unscrew.
Try these 3-stage push rivets used on motorbikes. One pushes the pin in to release the clip. Then after removal, push the pin back out ready for reuse.

They look nice... have you bought any? If so, from where?
Cheers!

Those 3 stage jobs look like the ducks nuts.
I'd be down for 60 or so, IIRC each flare has about 12 or so rivets.
If we can find a supplier, and get significant interest I'd be happy to do some leg work about pricing for a bulk buy. Wouldn't need to find many buyers to get a thousand.

They were used on my Suzuki V-Strom. I needed just a few replacements so I got them my local dealer. He had aftermarket ones.
Look for 3-stage push rivets. I'm not sure of the largest size, I think it's 8mm.

I measured my old ones from wheel arches (County) and 6mm seems right. I assume everyone wants 6mm? Worth checking new Defender ones are the same size. :)

I don't know if these are the same as the ones my V-Strom had:

See how the type the Strom had are used here (the third one shown in the video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sa1pHB4qnA

In Perth my brother inlaw's business is fasteners, bolts, nuts etc, I get all the odd plastic fasteners I need, as he is no rocket scientist I would assume any fastener supplier could source what you need.
D3/D4 plastic inner guard fasteners are the ones I use the most.

Why not Dzus fasteners?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dzus_fastener
You can buy them everywhere and much more robust that a plastic rivet.

Why not Dzus fasteners?
They will ultimately rust.
You will probably have to drill holes and screw the mounts in place.
Dzus are really aimed at items you regularly need to remove.
The plastic scrivet is ideal because it installs in a simple hole, doesn't rust but I'd have to admit it sometime doesn't come apart as easily as it should and if you don't have access to the back it's a PITA to remove.
I haven't tried my local fastener shop but as it's more of an automotive item they may not carry them.
Rare Spares have them http://www.rsp.net.au/Products.aspx?rpgid=f11&desc=SCRIVET-FASTENERS
Champion have them http://championpartsonline.com.au/index.php?route=product/category&path=17_99 and therefore SuperCheap, Autobarn etc.
The above would be OK if you just need a couple in an emergency but otherwise expensive.....

3 position push rivets on alibaba seem to retail at about 0.025 USD each for a buy of 2000ea... ie 2.5 cents. Probably FOB shipping (not defined).
Ive found a supplier of a similar product on ebay, and I've made an modest offer for a qty of 100ea. I'll report back when I know more.
