I'm thinking of getting an ex-army light 0.5 T trailer to tow behind the D90. How do they tow? and what sort of nick are they in at the auctions?

Hi Pete,
They tow fine and are good for off road work. Their condition at auction varies, but they are mostly fine. Watch out for rust.
If you have a Haymen Reece type towbar, you'll need a pintle hitch. I got a combo (normal & pintle) off ebay and it's good quality.
Because the combo hitch can't rotate, you'll need to ensure the ring on your trailer does. This stops the trailer trying to flip the car if it rolls over.
Cheers,
Pete

Concur with above.
Condition will likely vary considerably but luckily mine was in pretty good nick. I guess the blokes at 2/4 RAR didn't use it that often, must've preferred moving across the AO with their kit in a CrashHawk.
I have a rotating pintle hook on a raised gooseneck (rather than unlocking the lunette) which helps put the trailer on a more even tilt. The optimist in me thinks this will help reduce the likelihood of someone trying to nick it!
They'll bounce considerably if unladen and the short drawbar will test your reversing skills ;) I had a mate at work convert it from the standard NATO plug to a 7-pin flat connection, and no doubt someone on here would be interested in taking possession of the old wiring loom before you discard it.
Hope that helps!
