View Full Version : D90 Heritage For Sale $95k !!!
LouisW

There is a 90 for sale for over $90k on carsales.com - Private seller - NOT ME - Frankly this is stupid money for a defender and I doubt it will hold it's value - however if someone is prepared to pay $95k for a farm instrument that can't plough - GOOD LUCK to them and to the seller ;)

I don't begrudge him if he put in the effort and the money he deserves it. however its a lot of money for a car that is essentially worth $ 55k - 85% markup you don't do that on the stock market over night

You could buy a decent vehicle for that sort of money, not a badly put together utility vehicle which is made up of components some of which are not fit for purpose. Think axles (half shafts), driven members and output shaft.
Must be mad but good luck to the seller anyway.

Either trying to sucker someone into the "limited collectors edition" sale OR like gofish said, was told to sell so put a silly price on it.
Personally I'd go buy 2 standard D90's. Have one for a daily (read wifes car) and the 2nd for weekends (read my car with heaps of awesome stuff on it :D )

Yeah, just noticed this on Carsales.
Big dollars, that's for sure. It's got a few nice touches, unique
number plates, number plate frames etc, but $95K, I don't think so.
To be fair, He's actually looking for "offers",.......always best to start high I guess.
There's a few Adventures on Carsales as well, at over retail dollars, and also several highly priced low k 90s,.......but, there are also other new ones at realistic prices.

That's stupid considering there's quite a few still in yards/dealer storage. Unless they are yet to be collected by buyers...
Concord Land Rover (Suttons) have 2 RRS SVR's, an Adventure 90 and a Heritage 90 that I know of.

Was the Heritage 90 in Australia REALLY 'only' $55k??? :o
That is not much more than a 'standard' non celebration edition!
In the UK, they cost ?31k, which today is circa $ 66k! And thats without A/C and a radio!!! :D

Other than that beautiful unique colour, grille and graphics there aren't any real upgrades over a standard 90. Not even leather seats. So the price couldn't go too high. ....$95,000 second hand? Hmm it's an interesting test anyway.
I'd love one, but I don't think theyre unique enough to command such huge prices. For that sort of money I'd rather a fully restored series 1.

You don't need aircon in the uk 😄 And both the uk and aus are over priced for pretty much everything...but it is surprising that it doesn't cost more here.

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm thinking of in the New Year when I sell my 2010 110.
If that seller can get 95K for his (which I doubt) I may just try lifting my price expectations just a little bit..... maybe enough to buy my younger bro's RRS Autobiography as soon as it's out of warranty. :p

Ha nice try! ...your offer has come down substantially. Are you getting cold feet?

I am not the one selling or buying the $95k Heritage, so I would not know. Nor am I interested in buying a series I. However if I was forced to choose, I would probably pay more for a Perfectly restored Series I.
Let me summarise. I posted the $95k 90 as a point of interest. I also made the statement all cars are for sale at a price. This does not make me a genius or a aurthority on motor car pricing. It's just a fact of life, not exactly sure what you debating MR Landy.

13th November 2015, 07:24 AM
Well I'm debating with you about Defender prices 😄 you answered my question, I'd choose the immaculate series 1 over the new heritage 90 for $95K any day.
Would I sell my Defenders for a million bucks? It's a moot point really because it would depend on the market. Obviously if you're offering me $1mil I'd take it if I could still get a new Defender for $60K! But until you actually offer me the money it's irrelevant. The real question is: would you sell your Defender at any price if you had to pay the same price to get another one? Most here would say no.

So why not sell your 90 Adventure now for what $65K? and put that or the repayments into the mortgage?
To me this thread is about the passion we have for our Defenders and what we're prepared to give up to buy them or to keep them...what are they really worth? Is the Defender more important to you than paying a chunk off the mortgage? is another great question!

So now we have established: . your defender is for sale at the right price and the bargaining arena is between +- $65k and $100k.
2. and no one will sell their defender and buy a similar one at a similar price.

It's all about haggling, i would sell my 110 , but then i would get a 101, a Perentie and maybe a Series 1, and then a new Defender in 2018. :D
Someone sends me a clipping from Columnist Lyons with this honey:
?They are telling this of Lord Beaverbrook and a visiting Yankee actress. In a game of hypothetical questions, Beaverbrook asked the lady: ?Would you live with a stranger if he paid you one million pounds?? She said she would. ?And if be paid you five pounds?? The irate lady fumed: ?Five pounds. What do you think I am?? Beaverbrook replied: ?We've already established that. Now we are trying to determine the degree.?

Land Rover owners have been modifying there land rovers for many years, do you shake your head at some one who fits Swatooth alloys to a standard 110? makes a replica 90 G4, ( when there was none ever made ) fits a SVX Grille? So I think your comment is little off the mark, I myself are not tying to replicate a limited edition Defender, I just like to be different that makes a person a WANNABE ?, hate to think if we all did the same thing.

Land Rover owners have been modifying their Land Rovers for many years, do you shake your head at some one who fits Sawtooth alloys to a standard 110? No, you can order them on a standard 110. makes a replica 90 G4, ( when there was none ever made ) Completely different and irrelevant! fits a SVX Grille? Could be ordered on any Defender post SVX So I think your comment is little off the mark, I myself are not tying to replicate a limited edition Defender, I just like to be different that makes a person a WANNABE ?, hate to think if we all did the same thing.
The fact that you needed to obtain a heritage VIN (even if it is your own?) to order the parts, is the issue I have.
They are a limited run of parts for a specific model. Buying a stack and selling them on at a profit, could mean that someone who actually has one cannot get them in the future.
I can go into greater details about my dislike of your business model and conduct, but this is not the place or time.

Landybitz, you are so on the money on this one! And Will - yes you have a point about profiteering but I don't see that as the point of this discussion. Your first line sounds like you agree that any of us should be able to order heritage parts.I don't know that it sounds like landybitz has a specific business model in mind regarding this matter.
If being precious about the issue/ edition/ model of your 4WD is such an issue may be some people should be driving toymotas or pootrols or some other Jap model.
C'mon guys - who really gives a **** whether you've got white wall mud flaps or some other trivial bit of childish heritage or modernistic paraphernalia on or in your car??? Oh yes, I like all that stuff too so you can't insult me about it.
It's like tatts! (I personally don't like them). If the owner likes them and they don't hurt or insult/ upset others who cares?
The whole idea of defenders/ county's/ series is that they can be modified and changed to make the owner happy, or am I on the wrong forum???????

I think you missed the point of my post...
But I'm sure the people that have paid more and waited a long time for a limited edition model probably will care in the long run, at least some of them.
If someone is willing to pay $500 for mud flaps, then they care what it looks like...
My cars are both quite modified, one of them even has standard Defender mud flaps...
Me? I don't care, I have a Disco and an RR, Defender drivers need heroes too :p

I've generally found Defender owners to be the least precious about their vehicle or the "special" model it might be...
I've only had one owner who brought in a SVX and was keen to tell me it was the first SVX in W.A and is the only one in the state.... I know for a fact it isnt the only one, but I wasnt going to argue the point.
Personally while I like the Heritage model, I think they look just awesome in every way!! other models such as the SVX I just dont get. What extra do u get and why? decals, the sawtooth wheels (available on other special models), the option for mud tyres, the plate on the lower dash, seats, and the Land Rover bullbar thats not a patch on the ARB deluxe bar oh and the grill and head light surrounds that over time warp and distort out from the body. And as there have been a few other special models, or option pack that look so similar to the SVX, again it starts to look ....un-special vehicles...
As for the making a Defender look like a special model, I dont really see an issue with that, its been happening with Holden SS, HSV models for decades, its only the genuine ones that are worth the big dollars.
The Heritage model, its one purchase in hindsight I do regret not putting an order in when I had the chance.

My brother built himself a replica GT40. I don't think the few owners of real ones will give a flying fury donut. They know theirs are real and his is imitation. After all, isn't imitation the most sincere form of flattery?

Put whatever mudflaps you like on your Defender. It's no different to changing wheels, or any other accessory. But you can't fake it. If it's not a Heritage edition, it's not. Simple.

How I run my business is just that, my Business. I could go into micro detail about how others run there business, and even go into detail about all those pain in the ass customers, but the is not the place either and Slander could end you with a high legal bill.
Selling to make a huge profit? Come on have you seen the price of Heritage Defenders of late Double the price. Maybe you should be contacting all those people selling Defenders on for more, see what they think.

I think the heritage models look great. Not in a million years would i pay some of the $$ that people are talking about but everyone has their own sense of value or lack thereof. I am happy LR might finally be making a profit on Defender after so many years!
Cheers
