Hi. I'm new to the Land Rover world, just bought Discovery 4 MY13 SD V6 HSE. Just wondering about the 2 wired in sockets at the rear for trailer connection. Both 7 pin round, 1 has white cover and 1 has black cover....is than any difference function wise between the 2 plugs ?
I want to wire in a Redarc towpro brake controller and a brakesafe monitor and a power wire for the ESC on my caravan. My caravan has LED lights for stop, tail and blinkers. Are than any issues with the van having ESC when the Land Rover has trailer sway ? I have heard that you can have issues with the van lights being LED and the trailer sway in the Land Rover. I have heard not to use WDH hitch when the the LandRover has air suspension ? Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check the "Sticky" thread Re: installing a brake controller. Also search the forum this is covered in depth in previous posts. Briefly, the plugs are to EU spec. The white is ign and batt feeds while the black is SIMILAR to AU plugs but have the tail lights split across two pins, one being the AU electric brake feed. Also check the threads on LED trailer lights.

Welcome pj and you've come to the right place for info on towing with your D4. Plenty of good threads particularly in the sticky threads at the top of this page. I'd highly recommend the FAQ one. Heaps of info on many aspects of driving your D4.
Trailer Sockets
You'll want the black one but some people convert to 12pin. It depends on your van. I think Jayco uses the 12pin. This thread should help:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/214053-setting-up-d4-2-5t-caravan.html
Plus it covers quite a few other topics that'll be useful to you, including ESC on your van.
RedArc Towpro
You'll want to read this thread:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/97935-d4-electric-trailer-brakes.html
It's long but worth it. Covers the wiring and also where to mount the unit and the controller dial.
It is also covers a couple of important points on the trailer socket, mentioned by rufusking above (tail light split feed).
LEDs on Trailer
Easy fixed. Here's another long thread on the subject:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/85396-discovery-3-led-trailer-lights-26.html
I have one of these Linear units on the camper drawbar but there's plenty of other options:
www.linearelectronicdesign.com (http://www.linearelectronicdesign.com)
Trailer Stability Assist
This is standard in the D4, is very good and is always "on".
You are correct about WDH. Don't use. This is specifically stated in the Owners Manual.
Hope all that helps. Happy reading and Land Rover owning.
Cheers,
Scott

Dual battery system - you can't go past a Traxide system - search "drivesafe" user on the forum - Tim sells ready to install kits for the disco - and trust me I just put one in today - it's a doddle its so straightforward- and Tim's instructions are excellent. Quality is brilliant and it just works :) ps installed a tow pro at the same time - again using the instructions from the sticky so straightforward. Whereabouts are you?
Also sockets at rear - black standard 7 pin large narva - white either buy a "12s" white plug off the Internet from the uk or use a narva standard 7 large and pull the centre pin out
