View Full Version : 2010 RRS DRL install and headlight wiring

I've put the Osram multi-function DRL/foglights on my 2010 update RRS, which involved pulling the front bumper off (6 x 8mm self-tappers on the top, 2 x phillips heads in each guard and 4 x 30H torx underneath, plus 3 x 20H torx on each foglight).

I used a wiring diagram put together by powerfulUK.com:

101713

Unfortunately the DRLs are coming on with the car unlocking rather than when it's started, and only turning off (other than when the headlights are on) when the car is locked.

The diagram suggests running the ignition trigger wire to the headlight loom (blue wire to pin 14), possibly the self-levelling or cornering system, rather than the ignition itself. I'm sure I got the wiring the same as the diagram so either the 2010 update is wired differently to the 06-09, or perhaps there's more current in the system with the traxide DBS?

Regardless, is anyone familiar enough with the headlight loom or the electrics in general to be able to suggest an alternative point to use as the ignition trigger? Preferably on or near the headlight loom given I cut the wires to length!!

Thanks

Get an "Add a Fuse" and trigger from the fuse box.. I can soon advise which fuse for you to hijack...

Also, connect the Brown wire to +12v, not Earth...

Yeah? The generic diagram-in-the-box has both it and the black going to the -ve battery terminal, and they came with the half-circle terminals pre-attached for seating under bolts...

When the wire is connected to earth it turns them off completely when headlights switch on. When attached to positive it will provide a 70% reduction in DRL light output when headlights are on but they remain lit.

I have these in mine.

Here's the Osram install instructions.

Oh excellent, thanks - I was wondering why there was no mention of that capability anywhere, other than that it seems to not be legal in some parts of Europe.

Weird, the diagram with mine doesn't have the dotted lines. I'm just assuming they're the same model etc. I'll give it a shot and know pretty quickly...

You were right, of course, thanks Tombie.

The UK mob also got back to me with their recommendation to piggy back the blue DRL-on-ignition-trigger wire onto a one on the front of the radiator - horn or temp gauge or something? Their pics attached anyway. It's not tidy but it works.

The other bit that's not tidy is the massive amount of excess wiring to tuck away. I trimmed the loose coloured wires as I did the install but shortening the sheathed looms is well beyond my auto-electrical ambition and patience!
