Hi all,

My very first post!!! Just picked up a 2011 (MY12) Discovery 4 SDV6 HSE. What a beautiful car!!

I am having trouble sourcing the 5w30 engine oil (Castrol Edge Professional C1). Anyone know when I can purchase this from. (Preferable around Taylors Hill or Campbellfield). I have phoned castrol and they suggested i call the regulars, repco, super cheap, bursons. But they could not help me. I tried the closest dealership... They were not willing to supply.

Cheers!

Aaron

There are a few threads on the subject of oils for the D3/D4. It appears the oil is very important. Do a search with Castrol Edge Professional C1 as the search term.

See also http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/219960-engine-oil-3-0-tdv6-2010-a.html

I'm sure a D3/D4 owner will be along shortly.

At a pinch Penrite make a compatible oil. The Edge Pro that the dealers use is available in 20L drums from Castrol agents.

For engines NOT fitted with DFP you could also consider Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5W30 which is a A5-B5 specification. Available in 5 litre container and more readily available than some alternatives. DO check the container for the ACEA A5B5 compliance, SAE Grade, 5W30,
Ford oil spec WSS-M2C-913C

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5W-30 - Australia (http://www.shell.com.au/products-services/on-the-road/consumer-lubricants-tpkg/cars/the-shell-helix-range-of-car-oils/helix-fully-synthetic/ultra-pro-af-5w30.html)

Try Fuchs oil Titan GT 1 Pro C1 it is a 5W-30 ACEA-C1 oil, it meets or exceeds the LR spec and is about $50 I think from Burtons Auto parts.

An extract from an email from Matthew Genrich at Fuchs "The Titan GT1 Pro C-1 product meets the WSS-M2C934-Bspecification as required by Land Rover. This product is different to the GT1Proflex as the Pro C-1 contains an extra additive to give it an ACEA C1 ratingto meet manufacturers specifications, whereas the Proflex carries an ACEA C3rating."

Hope this helps.

Thank you for all the replies so far.

Does anyone know if there are issues with using different brands (same specifications) between services.
I am planning on doing an oil change between 'official' services. Is there anything I should look out for. I believe that LR use castrol, if I use Penrite in the in-between service, would there be any issues? I guess I am asking is it ok to use different brands of oils??

I also believe that my vehicle does not have DPF.
Thanks,

Aaron

I went to the local castrol distributor and purchased a 20lt drum of Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5W-30. They mentioned that they are starting to sell a lot more of this specification to suit some of the new diesels.

It is better to use the same oil if possible, but not critical.

Check with the dealer as not all LR dealers use Castrol.
