I am always on the lookout for unusual vehicles and while visiting Brisbane last week for my grandaughters wedding I spotted this left hand drive Dodge Lancer? parked in the Walkabout Creek Function Centre car park.

By the look of the rear mudguard, the owner is still working on it.:) Anybody here seen it before??

I notice the similarity to the 1961/62, "R" and "S" series Valiants that were released in Australia by Chrysler.

That rego plate indicates that it's been on full rego for about three years. I haven't seen the car about.

Looking at the pics again I dont think the owner is still working on it the dodgy paint round the guards I think the owner things it looks cool as it seems to be sadly intentional.

Yeah, it's not the way I would do an old car up. I like originality and I am also glad we got the "Valiant" version, which I think looks a lot better.:)

Aah! A rat rod, been a couple of years since I have seen one,it would be much nicer if it was in standard condition and much more valuable as well :)

First time I have ever heard the term "rat rod". Can't say I'm in the rod scene. So tell me, what defines a "rat rod"???

1965 Plymouth Cignet 2 door.VERY similar to a Valiant AP5 AP6.His is a matching numbers original 273 V8 4 speed. He is now bolting it back together, over the last 15 years or so he has managed to replace any missing or damaged parts with new old stock gear ex USA,including a complete new interior. It helps him having a mate who imports cars and parts from the USA,gets stuff put in their shipping containers.Should look a million bucks when completed, they are rare in America, and from what my Bro says there are only a handfull in Australia.

Not really a fan of rat rods, but I do admit some of the paint jobs are amazing, but this one with the dodgy spray can paint job on the arches is horrible. So bad the OP thought the car was under restoration, I did too till I looked again and realized it was for some odd reason done on purpose.

First time I have ever heard the term "rat rod". Can't say I'm in the rod scene. So tell me, what defines a "rat rod"???

A rat rod is a style of hot rod or custom car that, in most cases, imitates (or exaggerates) the early hot rods of the 1940s, 1950s, and early-1960s. The style is not to be confused with the somewhat closely related "traditional" hot rod, which is an accurate re-creation or period-correct restoration of a hot rod from the same era.

Most rat rods appear "unfinished", regardless of their status, as only the vehicle's bare essentials are driven. Built to drive not show.

Hope that helps. (I stole that definition :) )

This black rat rod van was built by a local. The sound of the engine is such that you can feel it as well as here it long before it appears. I like it. our local grocer had one when I was a kid.....not like this one though.
