I have seven war medals from my grandfather they are from 1914 to 1918 ww 1 also the African star. I have done a brief search on Google but most seem to be commercial sites. Can someone steer me to a reputable site or organization to clean and understand the history of these medals. My grandfather lived in malta.

Maybe your local RSL might be a good bet. I have had some dealings with Christies in Sydney purchasing replica medals to be court mounted. I don't know about cleaning and history, but a phone call to them might be in order!!:D:D

You local rissole would be a good start and they would probably be interested in the story/history behind them as well

Put some photos up. While I agree an RSL might have someone who might help but some RSLs will have no idea at all. A very varied outcome is assured unless you happen to chat with the right person.:wasntme:
The is Military historical societies who will have a keen interest in looking and helping and often if they d not they will know who will

Do you know what unit your Grandfather served in? [ Australian, or British] Check out this AWM site. As far as I know, the Africa Star was a WW2 medal
