View Full Version : Folding Steps on Heritage

My folding side steps have finally arrived, so for those who are still considering what side steps to install on their Heritage - this may help.
These are the steps out of the box:
102022
About to be installed (fairly straight forward):
102023
One side done - folded down:
102024
And folded up:
102025
All done (sorry about the shade - it was getting on in the day):
102026
I think the folding steps suit the 'look' of the Heritage. A neat benefit is that when folded up, they provide more clearance than the 'normal' factory steps. And when folded down they are lower and provide easier access.

Very nice.
Just watch them on rocks if you are out 4-wheeling. Don't ask me how I know.

I've actually just got one of these for the passenger side to help the missus in and out. From what I can see you've got to drill a new hole in the chassis for the support arm, is that right? I bought it just assuming it would line up with the existing hole that is used for the side runners. But it doesn't seem to line up with the folding step

Very nice indeed.
I was considering getting steps for mine, but then decided I should go with bars.
But looking at that,,,,, hummmm
So can you tell me, what's the difference between these steps and the normal "off the shelf" jobbies?

Hi Landi,
no holes were needed on mine. There are a number of holes in the chassis in the general area - but one is hexagonal instead of circular. This is the one to use.
I compared it to my other Defender, and its the same hole that the 'factory' side runners bolt too.
I'll get a picture and post showing the location.

Hi Digger,
for all four they were just under $1200 (haven't got the receipt with me at the moment).
However a warning for anyone looking to get them. There are two different kits you can get from Land Rover:
1. Accessory Kit - It comes with the step, bolts, rivnuts, instructions and importantly the bracket that goes from the step to the chassis.
2. Replacement Kit - It comes with just the step. No instructions, bolts, nuts or brackets.
You can probably guess which kit I was given - the Replacement Kit :censored:
Therefore I had to make up my own brackets. Whilst not as pretty as the factory one - I think they are more substantial:
102041
I think the retail price for all four steps in the 'Accessory' kit form is about $1600 .
The factory LR ones appear to be significantly more heavy duty that the cheaper BritPart ones.

I paid $200 for 1 from my local LR dealer. Although I did have a $100 voucher for completing an online survey which helped :p

I brought a BritPart one for my 90 and it took over 5 hours to fit the :censored: nothing lined up and bits were missing from the kit.
Brought the Land Rover ones for my Tdi and had two fitted in under half an hour, much better product

I fitted the genuine LR ones to my 90.
Yes there are several holes on the chassis rail for the horizontal brace arm to attach too, but on the 90 none of them lined up with the step. Besides, the kit included 2 very substantial 'rivets', so I drilled the 2 holes in the correct place, fitted the rivetnuts and all good!
VERY pleased with the sidesteps... much more 'traditional' looking than the tube type sidesteps and they are spot on for location too!
