Hi Guys, I`ve got a little problem, I can`t drop the rear drive shaft of the hand brake, none of my sockets or ring spanners fit the nuts, is this one of those special items that landrover came up with???? any ideas?? she`s a 1984 county.
Thanks

Hi Brownie
Them is those special LANDY nuts and bolts not metric not AF 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O 8O .
You need a BRITISH STANDARD spanner,Im sure others will know the size,I have an open ender,the 2 ends on it fit just about all those fiddly nuts.I would have to check it but its in between 7/16 AF and 11mm,if the size isnt posted I will chech mine and let you know.

a socket or a ring spanner should fit ....you need to rotate the shaft to get the angle to allow the spanner to fit between the two yokes....

[quote="LandyAndy"]Hi Brownie

On the 110 they aren't - they are UNF, 7/16 AF - but you won't get a socket on them, need a thin walled ring spanner or open end, and even then you have to rotate the prop shaft to get at them.

In any case 7/16 AF, 11mm and 3/16W(or 1/4BSF, they are the same) are interchangeable within the tolerance of almost all spanners and nuts/bolt heads. (actual sizes should be 11.1125mm, 11mm, 11.0-11.3mm, although 11mm heads are not used in the ISO standard, but are supplied in most spanner sets, possibly because they work with common AF sizes.)

Hey Guy`s, thanks for the input, I can`t rotate the driveline as the handbrake is stuck on, she was left for a month while I was away with the army and the boss went down the beach one weekend she washed the car but didn`t get up underneath around the trasmission and transmission brake and Diva was left for 4 weeks.....now the handbrake is stuck on....any thoughts????

Oh Dear! You may end up having to split the nuts you can't get at - A sharp cold chisel, and be prepared to fit new bolts, I doubt you can get a nut splitter on to them, although this might be worth a try.
If the diff end is easier to get at, undo it and then you can wiggle the shaft round to get at the gearbox end.

Hi Todd
Have you tried backing off the handbrake adjustment to its maximum unadjusted setting puting it in low 4x4 + diflock and rocking it back and forward betweem 1st reverse????? Maybe enough to free it up.
A squirt in between the drum/backing plate with RP7 or similar using that little pipe thats supplied may help.

Not very practicle but my hand break is so weak that I managed to drive 80k's with it on. Still need to adjust it so if it does jam on it has no effect anyway.
