View Full Version : Small trolley jack for L322?

My scissor jack is a little bent so need to replace it. I would prefer a small trolley jack to a bottle jack, in particular as when flat it may fit in the same spot as the scissor jack. Anyone bought one or know what I should look for? I thought 1.5 - 2 tonne would be OK. What about lifting height?

Thanks

Small trolley jack wont do the height...I know this because I have to get lots and lots of wood out every time i need to.
I use the highlift mechanical jack and then use the axle stands

Hi.
I've still got scissor jack and recently bought upto 4ton bottle jack from supercheap auto. It's got the height to lift the wheels off the ground.

Gee's ... don't use a scissor jack under something heavy like a land rover     Every scissor jack I've ever tried under a lightweight Citroen has splattered and buckled under the load. they'd fail almost immediately under something that weight 100% more!

Big trolley jacks are cheap these days. Buy one of them for your shed, to big to cart around with you, but very useful to have (remove the handle for more compact storage). eg:

Still looking for a replacement for my scissor jack. Just to be clear this is to replace the scissor jack, not for the workshop. A bottle jack might be the go.

I have been using a 4000 kg hydraulic jack for years and carrying it in the car, on its side, it has a threaded section that will screw up under the supension arms or axles. it has no problem lifting the wheel off the ground. but if you use on the soft ground you need a couple o blocks of wood or a bbq plate. cheers simmo

Tell LR that. D3/D4/RRS/L322 (and probably more) are supplied with a scissor jack that is known by users to collapse.

thanks for this post.....it just reminded me that I need to get a decent bottle jack .

I don't think there are any light trolley jacks with enough lift height to be of any value. I have a large one for work at home but it's a beast to lift.

even a decent bottle jack of 3-4tonnes , which you need , starts to become cumbersome , but is better anywhere than a scissor jack.

I carry a Jack from a Disco2 - it has a 2 stage piston so it long lift range.

I bought an "Omega" 2T bottle jack from Scotts auto parts. Cost $132. Am getting a sleeve with flat top made up for it. It goes up to 427mm.
cheers

I just bought a couple of these adapters from the UK - A$24 for the pair posted. One is for my trolley jack, the other I'll counterbore for my ex-P38A jack (I knocked the original banana-shaped end off the P38A jack and put a pad on instead).

They fit perfectly into the sockets under the L322.

Well, I counter-bored a shallow depression in one of them and pushed in (tight fit) a steel Welch plug to give it a solid loading point. (Pics taken but still in camera).

I removed the banana end of a P38A jack and put a pad on instead (I'll elaborate more later :( ) and jack the L322 up. I use a block of wood under the jack to give a bigger footprint on soft ground.

All worked well but the polyurethane bit does distort quite a bit.

What size trolley jack do they use for the armored L322? From the pictures I have seen, it is only a smallish one, with the right shaped head on it, like those poly blocks are.
