Hey guys, as you should have guessed, fishing is my other "thing" so who else is a fisho, or interested in the occasional trip :?:

I fish just about anywhere, but lack company sometimes, so if your interested, or want to learn just yell out, I'm only to happy to help or have someone along for company

I dont know everything  and learn something new every time I go, but have certainly learnt a few things over the last 30 or so years

I enjoy fishing, but have not been out for years.

Used to own a boat when we lived in Sydney and I have said I will buy one again once my son becomes a competant swimmer.

Sounds like a landy/ beach fishing expedition might be in order

I spent a large part of my early life on our family jetboat fishing. Unfortunately though, by the time I came along they had done all the adventurous stuff and were mostly into boring stuff like whiting fishing and crabbing.

I'd love to know how to beach fish style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif I think we need to have a chat at the meeting next week style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

A few years ago now I went beach fishing at night with a mate and his uncle to Budgewoi Beach on the NSW central coast.

His uncle had some very serious beach fishing rods.

He snagged a baby white pointer shark, man that thing was strong.

It dragged him up and down the beach for about 20 mins before finally landing it. What a mean looking mother. The strength of that thing, given its size, has reinforced my very healthy fear of sharks.

Mainly though, we would take our boat onto Bribane Waters or the Hawkesbury near Patonga.

Ahh the good 'ol days.

A fisherman? Hmm, not me. I last went fishing in 1960 and even then I couldn't touch the fish I'd hooked. I hate the feel of them and I can't kill them.

I don't eat them either. I don't particularly like the taste.

Oddly enough, in my last job as Marine Manager with Telstra, I dealt with AFMA (Australian Fisheries Management Authority), NSW Fisheries, and commercial fishermen. The latter were the bane of my life. My boss and I had a number of meetings with them on their boats at the Sydney Fish Markets and in our offices.

I didn't like the boats or the markets - they stank of fish. I really don't like the smell of seafood. Give me a meat any time.

But I did like going out in our patrol boat:

or the cable ship with which we contracted:

G'day Bryce,

I'm with you, gave up salties years ago, not good 4WDing either, hate sand in my car, wrecked a few bike chains out at Voodo years ago also.

I'm surprised Ron would enjoy, funny about fishing boats and fishmarkets stinking of fish, should spend some time in an abitoir or any other food processors, tomato sauce will leave fish for dead any time, went to Birds Eye years ago never eat a Fish Finger Again.

Cheers

Hi Pedro, not a bad way to travel to work every day, or do you just go across once a week?

Sure beats the traffic on the Gateway each day :x

How's the fishing going up there, are the tailor starting to thicken up yet, been a few good ones at the rainbow comp weekend before last
is there many good gutters along the front beach :?:

What do you do on the island? if you dont mind me asking

Must get up there soon, need a good dose of sand and saltwater between my toes

Gday all getting back to the subject of fishing and not the smell of fish.

I would be keen on a fishing trip. I have been fishing for the last 10 years around Melbourne with a trip each year to Bermagui to chase the marlin and some real fish. Unfortunately I had to sell my boat (new 7meter plate alloy cuddy cab) before I moved up here as I quit my job to become a student, had the best job as it regularly involved fishing, mmmm getting paid to go fishing what a life.

Well I am keen to go fishing but also know very few people to go with and know even less where to go!

cheers

Luke

As the old bearded burbler used to say"thank your mother for the rabbits" I'm with Seqfisho, love my fishing fresh or salt' but I need to do more saltwater as our local freshwater barra, bass and yellas taste like dirt, you cant eat em.
Hey, Seqfisho, Middle Creeks the spot of choice at the moment, only had a few hours there on the in tide, picked up two 4 pound flatties and half a doz legal bream of the shore. Got busted off on a few jacks, had one come into the shore chasin bait fish, looked about 6 pound. Apparently you get big barra there when it warms up as well as squid and prawns. Few fellas there were coming in with a few muddies, but if your going do it during the week as we left Friday arvo and there was a fair bit of traffic coming in,gonna get up there in the next few weeks with a tinny I'll let you know how it goes. Where do you fish round Brissy these days?

seqfisho
9th August 2005, 03:32 PM
Hi Crump,

Where is middle creek?

We mainly go up to Maroochy these days and fish the river, getting too much traffic in pumistone and the pine on weekends, also fish Somerset and Maroon when I get a chance, or go out in the bay and wide of Moreton in my cousins big cat chasing reefies and gamefish, but really missing my beach fishing at the moment, stopped going to teewah last couple of years cause of the yobbos using it as a dragstrip and the snot weed 8O love a feed of fresh tailor or whiting fillets

Gunna start doin the Northern Dams this year now they are all fishing better, want to get me a meter barra 8O

crump
9th August 2005, 04:08 PM
Hi Seqfisho, middle ck is about 10ks south of Agnes Waters via Erimbula Nat Pk. Sign posted tracks easy to find. When I lived in Brissy we used to be able to go to Dohles Rocks drift fishing and always get a feed or down to Deepwater Bend for a nite of crabbin (and drinking). I imagine those days are gone.Northern dams arent so far north anymore. Barra came on the bite for the first time in Lake Wuruma just out of Eidsvold over xmas and we were getting up to 10 fish in a morning session, best to date 92cm and 22 pound, but as I said, inedible. Awoongas good and the fish taste good as well as the redclaw, have lost some bigguns there, but you gotta be there at the right time.Best thing about Awoonga is if the Barra are off the chew you can still fill the esky with Gar.Only be another month or so before I start trying Wuruma again, if their on I'll let you know, their still a heap of fun to catch.

seqfisho
10th August 2005, 09:37 AM
Crump,

That middle creek, I was thinking somewhere else completely

Pancake is pretty good too, although I think it is getting a bit to much exposure and use these days :x

Let me know when the dams get going, I was looking at Monduran but hadn't realised that Waruma was coming on line

Yeah the big girls may not be much to eat but they are damn impressive jumping around the place, some of them are getting that big that you would have to think twice about swimming in the dams 8O 8O

Nothing better than a cold beer and a feed of redclaw after a day of being smashed by big barra amongst the trees
