A year or two ago I was given an Acer Travelmate 6492 . came with windows 7 ultimate,, a whole 1gb of ram and a T7100 cpu.
Its no rocketship.
Last night I had one of those happy coincidences when net research and e-bay magically combine.
so 2x2gb 200pin sodimms are on their way from China,, (a whopping $24) with a new T7800 ($30 and 2.6ghz) to keep it company.
It should all just bolt in,,

is the cpu up-gradable?
on most laptops they are soldiered in and not changeable.

after a bit of exploration,
I'm faced with this,,
I assume those tiny screws have to come off the silver fan cover then the whole lot tilts up and slides out?

more investigation shows,,
Intel T 7100,
two state of the ark ram modules, (I consider it fortunate there are two!)
at the risk of wearing out my welcome --
I can clean the cpu paste up no probs,,
but I gather the gpu(or whatever that shiney thing is) is cooled via a heatpad, should/can I replace it?
it is a purpley blue colour :confused:

sigh,,
you knew it was all too easy,,
cloning went well and fairly quick for around 28gb,,
went to shut down to swap drives,,
and windows updates tell me there are 131 updates to load,,
3.5 hours later its just finished configuring and now of course I have to reclone the drive

I swapped drives this morning,
the new ssd's are all 7mm so the included packing plate was used, I also had to pack 3 sides as there was around a 4mm gap.
The windows Hard Drive performance rating went from 4.5 to 7.6.:cool::cool::cool:
7.9 is max.
In real terms the difference is amazing:o:o:o
The little Acer should be well capable of flight(if still no rocket) when the new ram and cpu arrive.:D:D:D
