View Full Version : My New MY15 on its way.

Ok as some of you may have noticed I'm back on board after almost two years off, my MY12 Defender had wore me down at the time, I was doing heaps of city driving and not using it for its intended purpose. I had missed all the creature comforts of a modern 4wd so I made a bad call and sold it.

Anyways not all bad, I had replaced it with a new Colorado 7 which I just loved, heaps of diesel power absolutely fantastic features and creature comforts in fact I loved the Colorado so much I gave the Colorado 7 to the wife and went and bought myself the Colorado ute. I can't say a bad thing about them, an absolute pleasure to drive the power was amazing.

Needless to say I had that itch and when I realised there won't be another opportunity to buy another Defender again I panicked.

I read on here about how July then Sept was last orders and being late October I was disheartened by the thought of missing out.

This prompted me to ring every dealer throughout Australia, after every dealer laughing at me trying to find a 110 wagon I managed to come across two but they were both 5 seaters. I wanted a seven. I kept my hunt going I literally rang every dealer in Australia when alas I found a seven seater in SA from a country dealer.

Now my colour preference was white (again) ha ha ha, but I was not going to be choosy considering the circumstances. So you can imagine my surprise when I asked the dealer if he had any new 110's and he said yes, then I asked is it a seven seater and he said yes, then I asked what colour it is and he said White....OMG JACKPOT...

Well I couldn't give him my credit card quick enough.

So it ended up being a partial leather package with the Diamond Turn Alloys, side runners and body colour guards.

It has now been paid for and is on a truck on its way to me. So hopefully Friday I will be back behind the seat. I can't wait.

So here is a photo of my new Beast. I have blacked out the Alloys and put some Cooper STMaxx's on it.

I will put some more photos up as I add accessories.

Looks great. As I am sure you already know, you won't regret it. I have been driving my 110 in the city for a year now and haven't regretted it once.

Last weekend I was at a Dads and Lads camp. My Defender got more comments than any other car. I never cease to be amazed about the fascination there is for the defender.

Ha ha ha Pickles yes I did cut it fine. I power rang every LR dealer in Australia one afternoon, took about two hours. I believe that was the last seven seat 110 available.

Hey Babs,,
what else did the dealers offer?
were there lots of colourful 5 seaters?

Very nice! The black wheels look great against the white.

I really didn't think there'd be many left unaccounted for in November, congrats on finding the right one

Hey Babs,, what else did the dealers offer? were there lots of colourful 5 seaters?

There was a demo Keswick green with white roof at StLeonards.

VIC had a demo white 5seat with white steel wheels.

Dubbo at the time had a white 7seater with red premium seats Black Pack. But he said it was coming in, so it wasn't physically in stock.

VIC there was a black 5seater

I'm pretty sure QLD had none.

There were plenty of 90's everywhere it was like they couldn't get rid of them.

There was at the time a 110 Adventurer at LR Narrellan and they wanted 83k for it.

And VIC had a 130

I'm assuming these are all now gone.

absolutely fantastic features and creature comforts

Congraulations on your new rig, I think the adventure of finding one will only add to it's sentimental value.

I'm just curious though, what's your idea of creature comforts? My MY11 90 has air con, power windows, power steering, leather seats, huge ass center console to fit all my ****, and hell of a lot of sex appeal. Sure it takes 15 minutes to pull a u-turn in tight city streets, but what am I missing here?

I was informed, at the time, that it was the last 110 available in W.A.

I think every dealer wants to think they have the last one, but cancelled orders keep popping up around the place so you never know.

Regardless, your car will probably be on the same boat as mine (due to port end of Feb for March delivery).

WooHoo finally arrived today.

Feels good to be back behind the wheel of a Deefer again.

I noticed this one is quieter than my last 2.2 and it doesn't seem as clunky, maybe because it's still new and has to loosen up a bit.

There was white smoke coming out of the exhaust as I was sitting at the lights driving it home, I hope this is not going to be a problem. I only noticed it the once but there was quite a puff coming out.

I had this on the test drive - we pulled over to swap drivers and take a look around the car. It had white smoke puffing out of the exaust.

Salesman commented on the white smoke - told me it was due to the low KM motor (only had around 20km on the odo).

I have never noticed it again. Not sure why it does it though??

Recaros now in. After painstakingly fitting unfitting and fitting again that took me all night it's done. Tried them with Mulgo seat rails and without. Height was better without seat rails but I didn't take into consideration that the seat rails extended the slide back, so back in they went.

The Recaros with the seat rails really lift you up, I can see all the way over the bonnet now and I also went with the Defender Tuning leather steering wheel. Feels like I'm driving a RR now. Ha ha ha not quite but feels good.

At first I thought they were too high, I have dropped the back settings the front have to stay on the highest as there is no clearance to drop the front.

I'm approx 5'11.5"
As apposed to standard seats being way too low for my liking I prefer a little on the high side.

Had a nice long drive this morning and it has totally changed the feel of the drive, they hug you and keep you tucked in, they have eliminated the body roll and the suspension in them absorbs the bumps.

Over an hour drive I didn't move once, the lumber support is very comfortable, the standard seats I used to move around in constantly trying to get comfortable and always felt the seat base was too small like I was going to roll/slide off the seat.

Visibility- yeah you can still see the sky 100m ahead of you ha ha ha.

If you have Mulgo seat rails on standard seats you will be approx another inch higher.

Hi all,

A couple of very quick Boxing Day questions I would appreciate anyone here answering!

After much deliberation I recently purchased a new 90 in Corris Grey with Black Pack. Premium leather seats etc.

It isn't due for a while......but I have been recently lured towards a new 90 Keswick Green with Black Pack and same additions.

The dealer offering the Keswick though is demanding a good $5k above the Corris.....and I would have to pretty much walk away from a small deposit that secured the Corris.

So would you do it? The Keswick appears to enjoy a fair bit of popularity on this forum.

Also, what is the general view here of the black sawtooth alloys as opposed to the more usual silver alloys or steel wheels?

I am new to Defender (outside of having a few decaying and non-functioning Series ll on the farm) so unsure as to the popularity of the various colours and views concerning the wheels etc.

cheers

My 110 is Keswick green and I wouldn't have it any other way, but I personally wouldn't drop $5k on a colour choice that i already had paid for, especially if it meant losing a deposit. It's only a colour, and I'm sure you'll love what you have as soon as you start driving it.

I have no personal experience with the sawtooth alloys, but I know from the forum that they are extremely popular.

My personal opinion is to go with your ordered vehicle colour, and save that 5 grand for other bits and pieces to make it everything you dreamed of.

Cheers,

Colour choice is important. I chose silver because the vehicle was on the lot and great deal, when I was really looking for white. White was 5K more. Now I prefer silver anyway! But it doesn't really matter in the end. Both your options are good colours, it's not like one is pink! Corris looks more modern, Keswick is classic. Which do you prefer?

If you really want Keswick, offer the new dealer the same money as the first deal. Have you told him about your other order? I wouldn't, but I would say there is another available 5K less. Nothing to lose if you walk away. If new deal comes close and you can afford to lose deposit do it, but make sure you have at least one in the bag and that you can get out of contract on other one.

If you can get a better price with HD steel rims and dump the sawtooths I would do that. They are more classic.

...and I would have to pretty much walk away from a small deposit that secured the Corris...

I would recommending discussing this with your dealer first to see if they are agreeable to terminating the contract. You are bound by Contract Law, the deposit is not really a "disposable deposit" it is your "consideration" that turns your Agreement into an enforceable Contract.
You wouldn't want to find out that the dealer is prepared to enforce the contract though court action... I don't know anyone who has been in this position so don't really know what is the accepted practice in the trade...

Welcome to the forum.

I see your dilemma, mmmmm choices green or grey?

I would personally go with the colour that suits your handbag, shoes and makeup the best. That would probably be the grey, it's easy to match up and will go with just about any purse.

Ha ha ha you asked for it.

Mate they are both good colours but are you buying for your preference or for what it will look like to others while your driving over the harbour bridge and downtown Kirribilli. Either colour will look good in front of your paleo organic hipster cafe.

Seriously, congrats on the new 90 and don't worry about what other people think.

P.S If you don't like the sawtooth I'll swap you for some black diamond turn alloys, those sawtooth are ugly. Ha ha ha

Perfectly said jon3950!.......I also have a Keswick on the way, but would I change with the costs involved, no way, as in the future you'll always think you paid too much!

PS In refefence to rims, just like colour, it's all personal choice. My opinion would be Sawtooth for the Corris and White STD or HD rims on the Keswick.

Even MrKeswick says stick with Corris 👍 I would do that too, because dollars are tight! ...BUT if you really have your heart set on classic last Keswick AND IF you can get out of other deal ok AND you will regret the colour more than the money, maybe get the Keswick!

Nah, both those guys are right, stick with Corris, but I'd go for black HD steel rims. ...what have you decided?

Agreed. Keswick Green with black pack and sawtooths would look all wrong to my eyes. Like someone's granddad wearing a backwards cap and a fresh pair of Nikes. I guess that could be pretty cool, in an ironic way, but it's not for everyone. I think the traditional colours need to be with a white roof and white HD wheels to work well.

Admittedly I'm biased, but I think corris grey with black pack looks absolutely brilliant, but it is a more modern look. It all depends what you like, but my advice would be to stick to your original choice and enjoy it.

Let's change the direction of the post - should I get a white UHF Antenna or a Black Antenna?
