Well- the D4 has- for the first time- failed to proceed.

I was driving home last night with the Family onboard at around 9:30 pm. I was heading from Research to Warrandyte (in VIC), which is a dimply lit rural type road. We turn into our street, which has a steepish grade for the first 50 meters. All of a sudden, red triangle appears. Instant loss of power and a message saying "reduced power".
Due the steepness of the grade, didn't really have enough power to get right off the the road, so pulled over as best I could, put on the hazards and turned it off.
Tried restarting but it wouldn't fire. Turned it off again, waited a few minutes and its fires up no problem. Started no problem this morning no problem and drove the 35K's to the City without issue.
Given that we are about to head off in a few weeks on an extended driving trip, not that keen having unknown, intermittent "issue".

MY12 3.0 SE- 3 months out of original warranty, but with extended LR Extended warranty. I'm off to the dealer ASAP but any ideas?

From near new, our D4 has occasionally shown "Transmission Fault" and locked itself into 3rd gear. Every time after switching off then re-starting it is fine again, typically for another 20,000 k's. There are no faults logged when the OBD2 port is read by a dealer.

I suspect it is a simple micro processor glitch that occasionally causes a latch-up caused by a voltage spike. Lots of things can cause voltage spikes - dual battery systems, even the air con compressor switching on/off. If conditions are just right (wrong?) a latch-up can happen.

There is a chance that your problem was similar, but with you about to hit the road it is worth checking the OBD2 for logged faults. Good luck.

I've been putting this off but it may be time for a fault reader.
Problem is I also want a cargo barrier and roof ladder as well!
Cant have everything at once :(

A boost related problem methinks given the that it occurred when extra power was suddenly demanded so its bound to re-occur and will most likely have logged a fault.

Could be a faulty brake switch, or it is out of adjustment.

There are members with diagnostic equipment - nanocoms etc who are willing to assist.

Here are two links. The first is the main link to the sticky thread. The second is to the map, the link to which is in the first post of this thread. There are several members in Melbourne who may be able/willing to assist you.

So turbo actuator failure or cracked manifold?

Could be a sticky inlet isolation valve or its solenoid but wouldn't expect turbo or inlet manifold being a MY12 - too new.
