Hi All.
Does anyone know a way to adjust the spring in any other way than hit and miss approach?
I was thinking (if the spring is linear) about introducing certain pressures into tube and checking marks on the cone. For example if full movement is from 0 to 1 bar then 0.5 bar should be half way of full movement. Now if spring is not linear we can forget about this. I know it's a lot of assembly involved but can't think of anything else.
I'm just developing theory here.
Thanx!

experience.
when you know what the checks and balances are and how everything interacts you sort of just give it a feel, give it a plunge with a screwdriver and then take it for a drive.
on the exceedingly rare occasion when Ive had one specced up for what a customer says they want when you install the pump its not quite what they expected so you wind up doing some guess and giggle for them till its just so.
what were you trying to achieve and do you know what the 3 adjustments are and how they interact with each other in the compensator?

I understand what these settings do and how they interract. I was just thinking about it and there was no set way how to adjust it to move with boost except by feel and experience as you mentioned.
How do they do it in the factory? Not every engine/pump by feel for sure!
On mine I think spring is too loose. Starwheel needs a bit of anti clokwise. Egt rises quickly before boost catches up. I'll have to do bit more tuning. But above question was just theory in general that I taught I might try while tuning. It would be good to do a procedure for everyone that has less experience and feel under their belt.

ok, on net now.
yes, there is a way of doing it without test driving, Trust me dont bother.
from factory everything is a set of +/- tolerances and preasembled, a percentage of the assembled item sets is benched. The pumps are bolted up to the engines and then a certain percentage of engines are tested, usually with at least one of the engines having a tested pump put on it.
if the engine(s) hits its performance specs +/- and emission specs +/- then its batch is good to go and all the engines get their initial start up run up checks.
EGT rising before boost is normal if its doing it excessively then it may not be just the compensator setup thats at fault, you may need to adjust the max torque/fuel screw.
Generally I like to do the star wheel as the last adjustment if the boost hasnt been raised excessively, Id suggest backing off the start position screw first if you're happy with the way the fuel ramps in as the boost comes on under load.

Max fuel adjustment wasn't adjusted. And it looks factory original. I did turn the cone bit more than I should have. But that I can control with go go pedal.
I'll see how I go on next retune.

Seen this. But still doesn't answer my question.
Thanx!
