Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here although I have been looking around for a few months and have picked up a lot of good info.
I bought a new 90 a few months ago and have been loving it so far but am now coming to the point of getting a few bolt ons and was looking for some advice as I am a bit of a novice in this area.
If I get a bullbar and winch will I have to change the front springs and/or shocks and if so what do you recommend?
Has anyone tried to attaching mounts to the wings to hold shovel and axe, sort of like what the perenties have on the bonnet? I am trying to keep as much weight off the roof as possible yet keep most of those sort of things on the outside and thought it might be an option.
Also I have seen a couple of defenders around with round steel snorkels and like the aesthetics of them, does anyone know who makes them and if they are a good product?
Cheers

Hi Chris,
With a winch and bulbar your front end will drop considerably, about 40mm.I've recently replaced all the springs with Lovells raised height springs. Front-RFR-26 and rear RRR-27.Front has lifted @ 30mm above standard and the rear @55mm above standard. Shocks are Bilsteins. Suspension is firm but comfortable and handling is exceptional. If you stay away from the HD units (not saying there's anything wrong with them) the ride will remain comfortable and you won't need a DC propshaft as the HD will raise the front above 50mm.

I have an OME winch and winch bar with standard springs. No issues with front suspension. I do not have a bullbar.
As for shovel etc on the front, they would be illegal under current design rules. If you fit them then you are knowingly making your vehicle un-roadworthy. This will have significant implications for your insurance (you are required to keep your vehicle in a roadworthy condition).

Is the APT perentie 4" tube snorkel compatible with civvie defenders?
Now that is a tough looking snorkel.

I've wondered the same thing, however I'm pretty sure the Pentirtes air intake point is the vent on top of the wing not the side like the Puma.
I wonder if Ben would consider doing a Puma specific run ;)

Unless the wing top vent position and windscreen angle is different on the puma (compared to the perentie), the only concern would be plumbing the snorkel into the puma airbox, which would not be a huge issue with some creative plumbing.
I'm thinking PVC drain pipe and heat, mould it into the right shape to go over the guard, and silicone couplers to match both ends.

Not a bad idea mate. I have the Nugget Stuff Defender sealed airbox system which has flexible hose. Maybe it would be an easier prospect than PVC and you are all but guaranteed against water ingress

These people also make one. The guy was on this forum a little while ago advertising them. I like it but would prefer an all metal one like the APT one.
If it's sealed all the way to the air filter box, how does water get out if somehow water gets in the top of it? (without that mushroom thing on top).

I have a Mantec "metal Jobbie" and the Nugget air box kit. Works like the box says and I've run in to a fair bit of branches etc without damage. I haven't waded deep enough to need a snorkel cause A)there's no water here and B) i'm soft when it comes to water crossings.
Also got a terriferma A -winch bar (no winch) and a rijidig dual wheel/jerry carrier. all good stuff! That's about all i've done to mine apart from a light and removing 1 rear seat.
