View Full Version : Advancing fuel pump?

So I have set up my dial gauge trying to advance fuel pump to plunger lift 1.6mm. But after loosening 3 screws on pump pulley, pump is very hard to turn and it seems that it is draging pulley with it and no rotating just itself.

Is it timing belt tension that's doing this somehow? I can't think of a reason why it should.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Bit of an update. I must have done something to the pump. Symptoms are: No puff of smoke on startup. Less smoke when I floor it on accelleration. Seems bit down on power but can't say for sure.

Since there is such great attention for the post I'll provide another update :)

Checked the pump timing again and found the problem. I'm at the end of adjusting window. That's why timing belt pulley tried following the pump when I was rotating it.

Is this a case of one tooth out or is it something else? If I rotate timing pulley one tooth clockwise will it bring back to the adjusting window or is it going to be too much on the opposite side again? At the moment pump is just a bit retarded. But as I say, no more room for adjustment.

Thanx!!!

You should really start from scratch with the two timing pins installed then refit the belt and tension it. Fine adjust the pump pulley and then lock it where the slots are in the right area.

Are you rotating it clockwise?. To advance it it needs to go clockwise. If it is at the end of its movement then yes the belt has been fitted incorrectly .

Yup. Clockwise. I'm at the end of adjusting window and can't fit 9.5 mm pin in. 9.3 goes in tough. But this is not good enough. I wan't to be able to advance a bit more of need be. So it looks like it's belt off again.
