I have run my SSO's on 2 vehciles for 15 years and decided to go from halogen to Xenon. After much research and discussion with people i opted for a generic chinese 55w set up from Ali. Good kit with each ballast weighing over 400 grams. Nice silver coated copper wire of reasonable gauge and quartz globes. These are H1 types. You can unpick the german type connectors and run wires through the original small grommet on the back of the light but i opted for the hole saw and using the larger gromet that comes with the kit. I also used solicon and its well sealed now. Mounted ballasts inside bullbar with sika. The lights have gone from excellent driving lights (one pencil on passenger side and one spread on drivers side) 100w halogen to insane. I opted for 4300k to keep glare down and have a less sureal ighting experience...

Last night i blinded some roos. Picked them much easier than halogens. Immediate start up such that from cold i am getting better light than halogens immediately and full light within a few seconds. When warm its full light immediately. Excellent gear.

Cheers

Have had HID in the Cibi Oscars on the defender for about 5years now. think they are 4800 or 5000 k cant remember now. Have only changed 1 ballast in all that time and yes triple the output of the halogens and contrary to what some say have not noticed any probs with color definition. was having to replace a halogen bulb couple times a year from corrugations so defin paid for itself so far.
Cheers Scott

Saw a set converted a number of years back with only 35W HIDs and they lit up a great distance. 55w should be even better.

The only problem I have found with HIDs is that the focal length of the globe can vary from brand to brand. This can often stuff up beam being put out
