Blue smokey fixxy, happy

Hi all just wanted to let anyone with heavy white/blue smoke problems know that I have had the attached turbo drain pipe fitted and all is good. I had heavy thick white smoke bellowing out the exhaust, especially after light throttle for a long time and under full load high revs. I had Richmond motors fit the tech bulletin parts and I cant get it to produce smoke. This is much less embarrassing than before,especially when hoofing it to get away from friends cars behind!! I would suggest if you own an older D4 and have this problem to get this done. If your an original owner then you may get it for free. I had to pay, ended up approx $600 incl parts.

I did that job to a D4 last week. Pretty straightforward.
I estimate 200mL of oil come out of the intercooler when I dropped the bottom hose off. It took 10 minutes of driving before the smoke cleared up.

I have a 2013 D4, but if I sit at lights and pull away after a few minutes, quite often I can see a cloud behind me, is this normal ? I noticed its from 2010 onwards so I would think by 2013 year it would be built with the latest drain pipe mods?

Bigjon, how long did job take? I'm not clear if the starter needs to be removed on the D4? And why are the photos so bad on Land rover bulletins?

On the hoist I took a couple of hours, making very sure of everything as it was the first one I had done.

I would think I could be quite a bit quicker if I had to do another one.

The starter motor does have to come out, but it isn't all that hard to do, just fiddly.

It depends on the colour of the smoke. Black is OK ... it's just diesel exhaust.

White or blue is apparently bad, as that is most likely burnt engine oil.

I was aware of a haze caused by my MY13 due to other car's headlights but couldn't tell what colour it was, as it isn't very obvious in the dark or daylight. The first time I really noticed it was giving the car a massive welly full after being stationary, in very deep soft sand. Very big black plume .... but only briefly.

It does sound like other folks have very obvious plumes of white/blue...which is not what you want.

I would never want to do a 4.4 TDV8 - too much work and too much risk of ending-up with metal shavings in the sump if not done correctly.

The first thing I did with this one after taking all the belly plates off was spend a couple of minutes with the hose washing it all down. Got rid of 95% of the caked on mud, dirt, etc. Once dry I didn't get much dropping off at all.
