I've seen that same thing many times in the NT.
There was a grader driver from (I think....) the then Dept of Construction , whom I used to meet quite often on my work around the NT.
If I recall , his name was 'speck' Nevitt , and he often rigged his camp up for moving just like the photos above.

I rode past that rig when the police had just pulled him up.
Just knew it was going to be a bad day for the driver.

not that outrageous,,
grader drivers for big shires often camp out for weeks at a time. I reckon this guy just comes in for tyre changes:p

What do you think is in those tanks? It ain't water.
I would have thought you'd need some sort of license to make that much home brew.

About the only thing I get to tow with my grader is a bogged truck or roller;););)

I could actually, legally steer that setup,as long as the weights were within spec.
In WA we have a farmers MC licence,so you can tow multiple implements with machinery.I have one of these MCX endorsements on my licence from when I had to tow a tillage bar and air seeder box behind a tractor on public roads, interestingly there is no limit on the number of units you could tow.We were stopped several times by the mermaids and nerver got booked, all they wanted to see was I had a MC licence. As its all towed empty the weight isnt that great.
My good mate Derby Dan has done plenty of Kimberly road grading,he would tow an accomadation trailer and fuel trailer when it was time to shift camp.He would also be doing his first cut at the same time;););););)

Not sure Andrew but I think that if the grader is road registered in the NT then one 'trailer' is permitted. I don't think the MC licence extends to graders.
As the article said, he told the boys he had a permit and didn't...

I wonder if he set any land speed records?? I am guessing that combo would not drive out of sight on a very dark night.......

The grader itself wont do much better than 45kmh.It should have the grunt to maintain 45kmh pulling that rig, wouldnt be as heavy as pulling a full mullboard full of dirt;););););)

Is that all they will do? I am pretty sure the old 12E cats used to do about 60k and about 90k downhill in angel!!!!

And I reckon it would have the stoppers to pull that combo up fairly smartly....
