station wagon fuel tank

I'm curious to understand how the "senior commander" 5 door fuel filler and tank work.

I note that there has been a thread about this before but the pics have vanished.

The EMEI G153 shows a diagram of the tank but I suspect that it is the 2-door tank in the 5 door document.

As best I understand it, the filler cap is behind the rear door (easily seen in photos), the filler pipe runs in the wheel arch (so presumably exposed to mud etc). There is an EMEI bodywork diagram that shows a fairing in the corner of the body.

I then presume that the pipe must run in a tight space between the underside of the floor and the top of a crossmember and then enter the tank (which must be a different shape at the rear edge) about halfway up.

Is that right?

Does it fill well?

If one wanted to use a county/defender body on a perentie but use the "senior commander" fuel tank location, what improvements could be made if a new tank were to be made up?

Gday, I just had a look at mine.
The filler pipe runs pretty much as you say.
Although seems to go into the tank higher than half way.
It fills as quick as the servo can pump.

same tank as the standard 110, different filler neck setup.

a good exhaust shop and bend up the pipe to fit what you want and from memory its a 2 inch pipe.

it uses a slightly different venting configuration but , at the end of the day it works as per the standard 110 system.

DONT try to fill with a jerry if you run it out of fuel on a steep uphil, bite the bullet and do a stall start in reverse and let reverse against compression till the nose is down below about 15 degrees.

the pick up is nearer the front of the tank so if you get really lucky it might even self prime and restart on the way down hill for you. Its only ever an issue if you let the fuel drop below about 1/8th of a tank and try to climb near the design limits (or in excess of them :whistling: )

Paul.I have a spare perentie tank that i was considering using in my Defender 110 dual cab six by six.

The perentie tank filler runs over the top of the chassis outrigger that supports the rear of the tank and B pillar. In the Senior Commander and Personnel carrier variants, is there any modification of the rear footwell/floor immediately behind the driver?

Aren't there a couple of threads on here of people converting rag tops to wagons and having to modify the tank to fit?

A standard tank won't fit a wagon. The wagon uses a modified standard tank so it will fit under the wagons 2nd row passenger floor level. The modification is to the top half of the back of the tank where the filler tube is. This section is chopped out and plated to create a step. A narrower longer filler tube is also welded in place and has some support brackets. Otherwise it's standard.

I couldn't see a standard tank fitting! In series III (about 1975) PMC made a batch of special "under seat" fill tanks for the series station wagon. The tank was a 15 gal instead of 16 and had a scallop out of the top rear. I guess this would be the same as the Perentie SC or PC.

Given the dual cab floor is the same as the 5 door, I'd have to either modify a standard or acquire a genuine SW one.

Dave, you are correct about the unique breather setup which goes up then down the driver side B-pillar.
