Hi All,

I'm new on here and preparing a 2013 110 Wagon for a round the world trip, heading out via Dili in East Timore in Feb 16.

We're (my fiancee and I - on an early honeymoon) putting a shelf at the bottom of the rear window height to stick our worldly possessions under and sleep on.

The thinking behind this is to keep the centre of gravity, wind resistance and general visual profile low to allow us to park inconspicuously in cities when we're there and hopefully sleep more or less wherever we want for free.

In order to sleep comfortably on such a high bed we want to install a horizontal pop top like in the pic attached. I'm wandering if anyone knows who the manufacturer is? I can't find it anywhere and though it looks somewhat simple it also seems very well made and much smarter than me trying to make something in my holiday time.

The bed will basically be slats on a frame so we can tilt the front seats forward when the bed is in use and lift the back slats up to sit on bench seats near the rear door to cook / work / argue and what have you if it's raining or too cold for us to use the tent.

I'll take some pics when I get started. We figured it was buy a house and sit still or buy a Defender and live anywhere for a while. Such a small space and no house will probably be a good contraceptive too ha ha. We pick it up a day or two before Christmas and will be working hard all Jan on it.

I am still planning and any ideas / suggestions or links on this or other sleeping ideas would be very much appreciated.

We're used to travelling light and not too worried about running out of space.

Cheers, Brian

You're lucky; not only is the owner of that vehicle on the forum, they are also in SEQ.

You could try sending a PM, or contact via the website on the mudguard (SLR Off Road Caravans and 4x4 Expedition Vehicles 4x4 motorhomes (http://www.slrcaravans.com.au)).

You could talk to Jim at Dormobile, these roofs will give a genuine 8 foot headroom. :D

Thanks Gents, both a big help. I'm still working out how this site works so apologies if I've overlooked something obvious.
