" Blue " Gibson's life will be celebrated tomorrow, at Redcliffe. The D.C.M. is one below the V.C.

Malcolm Gibson DCM (http://www.4rarassociationsaustralia.com/gibson.html)

Speaking to a mate of his today, he said " Blue" didn't wear his D.C.M., because he didn't want people to think he was big noting himself.

Thanks for that Bob. would be interesting to know what the difference is in being granted a DCM to a VC????? There does not appear to be much in it and probably comes down to opinion of the committee that grant these awards.:)

Mate, with the latest Australian Awards coming into being, I can't answer that question. I do think the George Cross is second behind the VC, now I think about it. The only DCM I would have been been in contention for during my service, would have been Don't Come Monday. The following link is interesting, go to the comments section, Major Harry Smith, O/C D company , 6 RAR, and Mark Donaldson , VC, have some interesting comments.

If you haven't already, check out the post " Australias longest War....Afghanistan" Take the time to go deep into it. Our Army did us proud, shake the hand of a modern Digger, and thank him. I think they would appreciate it. Make sure they are not treated like the Vietnam boys.

I remember well what happened in the Vietnam era.It used to make me so angry and I used to say "why are they being treated like this, they are only doing as the government has requested".
