how to remove the rear window from a 130

Hi all,

I need to remove the rear facing window from a 1998 defender 130 - i've drilled the rivets, before I break anything, can someone please tell me if there is trick to removing this? Does it separate into 2 sections?


Also - if anyone happens to have replacement glass for the drivers side sliding panel please let me know, as one side is currently perspex..

( PS - this is the single rear facing sliding window on a 130 - not a rear side window on a 110)

Make sure all rivets are out.
It may have been sealed with silicone or eurethane etc ( not factory).
The factory just use foam rubber gasket and rivets.
It may pay to carefully run a piece of fine wire (like mig wire) around the frame to cut any potential sealant. They remove many windscreens the same way , google it for some vids if unsure.
Otherwise it should just push out.
The frame can then separate into two pieces top and bottom by undoing 2 small c/sunk screws in the middle of the frame each side.
Are you replacing runners/glass?
I replaced mine with a nice tinted single piece section of glass from the local auto glass guy.
No more rattles or leaks. (Unless you want a sliding rear window.

I removed mine recently , & yes with the rivets out it should come out .
Good luck , much nicer without the rattle .

I have 1 piece of glass, not sure if its the side you need. Will check over weekend. I replaced with a single piece when 1 shattered. The frame separates into 2 pieces once removed. mine came out relatively easily once all rivets removed.

Re stopping the rattle, for a start the little plastic "bolts' or whatever in both original sliding window glasses on mine broke so they could not be locked shut. Did not feel inclined to $pend replacing with more of the same rubbish. So screwed quarter inch roofing bolts through the holes in the glass that screws holding standard locks go. Then have modified long weak tension springs and hooked them permanently through small holes in the roof frame straight above sides of window. On other end is large easy to manipulate hook that can be hooked onto window roofing bolt - with nyloc nut for "knob" in position so we hooked up they hold window shut and also upwards. So no rattles unless window (s) open, despite widow channel not in very good condition. Now its further deterioration will be a lot slower. Note that window can be forced open against spring from outside. Car thieves would not necessarily know of or discover this non standard "feature" though. Could be an advantage allowing owner or someone else authorised to "break in" when locks cannot be opened due to no key or some other reason.

if you've got the drivers side I'll probably take it and keep the sliding screens for now - if not, I think I'll go the single piece. Cheers, Andrew

After thinking about this, each side is identical - one is just flipped around. To check, I looked at my other 130 which still has both windows in place, and can confirm that on one side the 'logo' faces inside the cab, and on the other it faces out.

So bottom line Andy130 is that I have the part you need. I assume you want me to post it to Sydney. PM me the details. Fingers crossed it doesn't get smashed in transit.
