Good evening brains trust, how are we?

A mate has a puma wagon and was driving down a suburban street at 50km/h yesterday morning when his rear (tailgate) window shattered.

And we have no idea why. Rear door only has the dual finish alloy spare with a 235/85R16 on it. Door latch seems to be adjusted okay, spare tight on its mount. Road surface okay...

Any ideas?

I seem to remember Kyle, "alien", telling me this happened to him whilst camping overnight. I think there's a thread about it on here somewhere. From memory it was mentioned that it's pretty common that the glass breakage radiates from the high mount brake light.

Seems to be a feature of the later model rear windows with the high-level stop light.

Mine went in the driveway a few years ago - suspect the trigger was temp change.

Only time it has happened to me was on a gravel road, stone bounced off front of trailer - I wonder if there is a link to the cases described, with stone chips incurred similarly?

I replaced mine with perspex about 5 years ago. But I know why mine broke, rollover!
