So i went into a local place that normally deals with land rovers (reccomended) as I had wanted to test a few things to do some fault finding. I wanted them to test alternator output and check some wiring etc. They told me no problem and said they would attach it to the autologic "because a nanocom does nothing" anyways I got a call 2 hours later saying they couldnt help me because they dont work on "old" landrovers mostly new stuff.
Anyways to their credit they didn't charge me and even recommended someone else but did give me the printout codes from the autologic which was great except im not sure what they mean. Im hoping and guessing that someone here will.
Im having a surging problem thats been well documented on this forum and Im hoping the codes could lead me to something that the nanocom missed.
Like a fault with the alternator, wiring issue, potentiometer fault, fuel supply issue etc etc.
Any help greatly appreciated

How bad is the surging?
It could be oil at the red plug of the ECU.
Most of the codes are what I'd expect if the oil is allowing voltage changes at the pins on the ECU.
Don't' forget it starts at the round plug(harness to injector loom) at the front of the head.
If oil is present spray both with contact spray as a short term solution.
A lazy fuel pump or blocked fuel filter is also something that should be considered.
It's an elimination process.

[FONT="Arial"]Surging is quite bad, mostly after cresting a hill or maintaining speed on a flat or downslope worst in 5th gear around 100km/h but present in all gears hot or cold.
as far as oil at the plug - Harness was changed as there was oil at the plug when i got it - checked regularly since and no leaking from the cover plates/top cover or harness at all. I have over the last few months eliminated all residual oil from the harness.
Hand brake seems fine and doesn't get hot at all. Wastegate has been adjusted, new later model NNN ECU fitted with TD5 Inside remap. Also have the allisport new intercooler. Had a delaminated turbo hose and all have been replaced with silicone jobbies. Air filter is new - had full service with all filters etc not long ago. Air con is currently disconnected. tried cleaning and disconnecting the MAF/MAP/clutch sensor etc etc all to no avail at all. It doesn't use oil, doesn't get hot, nothing that I could say would be a definitive symptom.
I did find small cracks in the bend in the fuel line just behind the fuel filter before it heads off the chassis rail down to the long ranger tank. Im wondering if maybe its sucking air, though its never leaked there. Also I thought the in tank filter may be blocked - the car came from out west and had a lot of red mud under it which kept the chassis mint and free from rust but may not have helped the fuel system. Have a new fuel pump and relays got delivered yesterday and they will be going in shortly. I did bleed the fuel filter for water this morning and no water present, however when i do the fuel pump i may drain the tank and do the in tank filter too just to rule out any type of contamination.
Im thinking it may be an alternator issue - the harmonic balancer was getting noisy so I ordered one and that should be here any day too. By xmas I'll have the fuel pump and Harmonic balancer sorted.
Ive done so much to this truck to chase it down and want it sorted - I saw there were driver demand faults which weren't on the nanocom I'm led to beleive these can be potentiometer? is that right? I know Psimpson7 has a spare one laying around he said I could borrow to test so that might be worth a look.
If anyone has anything else I've missed - even something simple - I am all ears!
cheers.

If the serging is at high load, 100km/h over the hills maybe it is a fuel pump on the way out.
As you have a new one I'd be fitting it as see what it does.
Symptoms are similar to a mates Disco that had needed a pump.

im hoping so... it sounds fine with ignition on though... not overly loud or anything.

So quick update:
Major breakthrough so as an extra precaution I started disconnecting and going through everything again from scratch and found my waste gate needed more pressure than I would have liked so pulled it off o service and on the underside it has 3 small nicks in the bell housing, I remember them before but now one of them is a hole and seeping oil from the breather, so instead of the waste gate opening and closing as it should I have a heavy valve as the air escapes.
Such a simple thing, I hope this see's vast improvement and I may not even have to fit that new VDO pump yet - who knows.
My biggest question is what happened to the bell housing for the nicks to get there? It's on the underside between the waste gate and the turbo housing, no moving parts there etc.. But it almost looks worn through.
Very strange
