I have been looking for Akebono brake pads for my 2.7 D4. Does anyone have any idea how much they should cost, and if the wear indicators are integral or an add-on?
Thanks, Paul

The sensors are available from L/R.
The pads are available on order from Pedders I believe but I bought mine on ebay from here:
Akebono EUR1099 Rear Ceramic Brake Pads | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Akebono-EUR1099-Rear-Ceramic-Brake-Pads-/291441447811?hash=item43db439383:m:mxTxyiVnlpXbKxn ZeWmac9A)
Akebono EUR1098 Front Ceramic Brake Pads | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Akebono-EUR1098-Front-Ceramic-Brake-Pads-/291116338345?hash=item43c7e2cca9:m:mjLdwqFfsMPw_ko axQNMP6g)

Pretty sure you can also get the sensors from Pedders. ;)
I bought my pads from Pedders in Mandurah WA but had them installed by the LR dealer I bought the vehicle from during a scheduled service. I also had them install new OEM LR rotors and sensors, and they have been monitoring the wear of both the pads and rotors since installation. Very pleased with the results so far. :D

Thanks gents for the replies. Do the sensors need replacing if they are not worn down to the point of triggering the alarm? Pedders are quoting $36 for each sensor.

I was told that even if the sensor has not worn / been activated, it is highly likely that you will damage them if attempting to swap from old to new pads, so best to purchase and install new ones. ;)

No need to replace if not activated easy to swap from one pad to the other. Hardly any brake dust at all with these pads.

Hi SIG,
If you try and pry the sensor out by the part that is 90 degrees to the pad and looks like the natural thing to pry against you will break the sensor. You have to pull the sensor out square to the pad, I usually use a set of long nose pliers.
If you give the sensor a bit of a gentle rock along what would be the edge of the rotor in the direction of rotation the sensor will come out fairly easily and won't break.
My experience anyway, first time I did the pads I broke both sensors.... easily done.
Cheers Marty.

Forgot to add. I put mine onto old rotors and brake performance was very poor for a week or two until they bedded in. Very good once bedded.

I just paid $120 from Pedders for a set of the rear pads.
Turns out I didn't need them as ones in there had plenty of pad left and it was the missing sensor and cut wire that was causing the issue.
Joined the ends of the wire to turn the dash warning off whilst I order a new sensor. Not sure how the sensor managed to come out??

Thanks again everyone for all the advice. Doubledisco, which Pedders was that? I need to try a different branch. The one I called quoted $150 for rears plus twice $36 for wear indicators, plus $18 freight to them plus X freight to me. Fronts $174 plus all the above - too much, I thought.
Cheers, Paul

SIG - if you're not in a rush, you can also buy them from Amazon (USA) - for a lot less than the local suppliers. For example, I bought front and back sets for what they're selling one set!

It was the Blacktown branch. Not sure if they had anymore in stock.
On my D3 there is only one sensor at the rear and one at the front. So only $36 each end. Not sure if the D4 is different??

D4 is the same - only one sensor per end. ;)
