Hi all,
I have just purchased a TDV8 RRS fro Graysonline at Brisbane. Hoping to fly up tomorrow 23rd December to pick up.
Will be driving back subject to getting a drivers permit and the car being ok.
Can anyone suggest a place to get it Blue slipped in NSW. Near the QLD/NSW border.
What happens if it fails badly...can it not be driven on the permit?
A sight unseen buy...yes I know!!!
Silver in caolur so if you see me travelling home...wave and say hello!

Can't you get a permit in QLD to drive it to your place of residence?(even if it's interstate)

When I bought my second hand Defender in Qld I cancelled the Qld rego and got a permit from Qld rego office to drive home to Sydney. The permit was valid for about 4 days but could only be driven to obtain the blue slip. Not sure if that is the same as my experience was 8 years ago.

That is the plan. However I will not get back till late. Getting a Blue slip on Xmas eve might be harder than getting one the day before on the way home. Plus if I have one I do not have to come straight back....
Does anyone know if the Nanocom works on the RRS if you have the Discovery 3 unlock and lead?
Still at work so just popping on when I can.

Yup.
"You will need a permit to move an unregistered vehicle if:
- you are moving it to another state or territory for registration"
Good for 1 to 7 days. You can apply online.

Does not let me fill this link in. I do not have a QLD license.
Cannot find a link for doing this for an interstate license!!!

Hi Chilly,
Congrats on the purchase, a very wise move, one you will not regret.
Getting back interstate, what an interesting topic, I have bought I think it is five vehicles interstate, all Land Rovers. I have never managed to drive one back what I would regard as legally for many different reasons.
The closest I came was SA where I popped into a local post office with filled in transfer papers, I paid what I had to do and left. I was of the belief that once I had done this I could drive around in WA until the SA rego ran out then put the vehicle over the pits. It wasn't until I went over the pits that I came to the realisation that a WA licence holder can't legally own a SA registered vehicle. After the pits I put WA plates on, they let me off the stamp duty because I paid that is SA and had proof.
The RRS sport I bought in NSW from a yard, just as I was about to drive off the sales guys started to remove the plates, asked him what he was doing he explained the rules, legally he had to remove the plates selling to a WA licenced driver.
In the end they accidentally forgot to remove the plates and I posted them back to the yard when I got back to WA. There is no legal way I could find to get a vehicle back to WA driving it back that is. If I did the transportation by train I could then get a moving permit to move the vehicle home in WA and then to the pits again on a moving permit.
I did insure the vehicle in my name with the plate I had on it for the appropriate value, legally I don't know how credible that was I didn't ask for fear of the answer I might get.
I don't think you can do it Chilly, now you have asked the question and found maybe the answer you didn't want you know, you are now knowingly now doing something wrong. It is all to do with the drivers licence state and the vehicles registered state.
Driving an unlicensed vehicle and in my case I would have been driving an un-plated RRS thorough three states, how long would it be before I got stopped? As it was I got breathalysed going through Mildura, that nearly resulted in a loss of primary containment.
Once you get it home and legal you'll be living the dream.
Cheers Marty.

Some 7 or 8 years back i flew to sydney and purchased a vehicle went to the motor registry and obtained a permit to get it home here to Tas . It had certain stipulations like taking the most direct route home. Was a std form and quite commonplace i guess because there was no confusion at the desk and we were sorted within a few minutes.

If you're flying up I would jump on a train from the airport to Fortitude Valley station. Next to the station is a Queensland Transport office. Then either get a taxi to Grays at Eagle Farm or go public transport.

Ok, checked with qld. Can get unreg vehicle permit to drive home. A few costs with it. Not exact figures but $30 per day for permit. $50 for insurance day one then $1.
So, hopefully all good for travelling home. Green slip and full comprehensive insurance paid!
Would love to get it blue slipped on way home....any recommendations for where to go?

Make sure you check what happens when you get to the border, you will probably need a NSW permit.
When I was looking at S/H D4s to buy a victorian vehicle I had to de-register it,get a vic permit to the boarder which covered SA from memory, then had to have a WA permit for WA.
I ended up buying new in WA.

In SA it's 14 days. When I sold my Puma to WA just signed over the transfer papers and off he drove to WA. As far as I know he then just took it in and got it WA reg. I was worried at the time he would have trouble as it was pretty well modified but in pics he sent me it was still as I sold it to him

Hi Andrew,
Not sure about this....my understanding...and this may well be wrong....is with QLD Unreg permit I can drive home to NSW as I am driving a car register from QLD...for the length of time I had asked for. In this case three days. The first day was nearly finished at 1700 hours as the clock starts at 00:01.
Plus now home......boy what a car to drive....so much get up and go and only a tank full of fuel to get back...about 9.5litres per 100kms...as per distance v fuel used at browser.
Had a few beers now with little sleep...so apologises for ramble on!! ha ha...should that be ho ho ho...Merry Christmas!!

How did you go Chilly?
Got home ok.
Few issues at start....battery flat and no fuel.
Once charged ok...needs a good clean and I have a few things to look at....some extra wires which looks like they were for solar panels. Electric brakes....and???
Cannot get tailgate open and it is not closed correctly. One for after Xmas.
Rego today so can drive about.
Thanks,
Chilly

WA is the only state which doesn'[t play ball. A permit issued in QLD is good for NSW and Vic (personal experience) ans probably SA as well.
